Freaking Hungry

It never fails, when I don't get enough sleep I am famished. I just want to eat and eat and eat some more. I hate when this happens. My sleep was all messed up because of a work call I got at 10:45 that went until 12:30 and I was up at 5 to work out. I am tired. I am nodding off. I have had 2 cups of coffee, may need to go get a no carb red bull at lunch time.

But even after I eat I am feeling hungry and this happens every time I don't get enough sleep.

Just *****ing today!

I feel your pain!  This is a huge issue for me as well ... when I am over tired I just want to eat and eat and eat!  If I manage to control myself, and not eat, all I can do is sit and think about eating ... the intensity of the biological (or perhaps pschological) drive to eat when tired just blows me away time and time again.  I've never thought of using stiumulants to counteract it,  LoL.  I do the opposite actually ... at the soonest possible moment I take a sleeping pill and go to bed!  Wonder which is technically worse?  Good luck, and get some sleep :)

I learned over the christmas holidays that those kind of late nights are a real no-no.  It only happened the once, but the only way I can think to handle it is to continue eating on the 3-4 hour cycle for as long as you're awake.  Yes, it will distort the calories for the day, but without that step the hunger is too out of control.

Oh my goodness, thanks for sharing that.  This is exactly what I am experiencing.  Makes me feel better to know what is happening.  Thanks Keith!!!

I used to eat myself into a carb coma and fall asleep. Terrible habit. I equated sleep with being full and it's taken some time to step away from that distorted thinking. Still a work in progress!

It's good that you've made the connection of sleep and the role food plays in it. Also, a double shot espresso sounds really really good right now

No advice but a little commiseration ;). It sucks to be hungry. Take care, and I hope you have a peaceful, relaxing evening with a nice long sleep!

Other than the usual fatigue I have always felt when I don't get enough sleep, I have noticed that lack of sleep slows or even sparks a stall in my weight loss.

That being said, I suppose I have been particularly blessed - I am almost 3 months out from surgery, and stil have yet to feel a single sensation of hunger.  I know very well when I need to eat - but am never hungry.  Recently, I have sat down to a meal that smelled really good (and didn't quickly begin to turn my stomach!!LOL) and begin eating and actually enjoying the taste - but it still only takes a couple of bites and I am DONE!
