if you drink a protein shake do you have to wait 30 minutes before you drink water.?

A protein shake isn't going to activate the pyloric valve, so it isn't necessary to wait to continue your water.

Hi, my name is Be-Be and I am happy  to join your group. I have a question and here it is:

I am wondering can you use shakes for all the protein? I am on my 16 day today. I am always so sick too. My stomach hurts so bad. I am so nausea. Do any of you know how to get rid of it? Thank you in advance. Also, can you eat scramble eggs too. I want eggs really bad.

Again, thank you,

Be-Be

What does your surgeon's plan call for at 16 days out? You should be strictly adhering to your plan while you are healing. If that calls for a liquid diet, then protein shakes are fine. If your plan says soft foods, eggs are a great option. Stick to your plan. It is in place to help you heal. If you weren't given a plan for some reason, call your surgeon and ask to be put in touch with a nutritionist.

However, if you are experiencing pain and nausea, you should contact your surgeon ASAP. Please do not rely on the advice of an internet forum when dealing with pain/discomfort. Complications are a real possibility as early out as you are. Do not hesitate to get problems checked out.

Best of luck. Please keep us informed in how you're doing.

You should definitely be talking to your surgeon!  You should not be feeling super sick or nauseated.

Your surgeon's (or nutritionist's) plan should also give you insight on when you can eat eggs.

No, you don't have to. No pyloric valve closing issue with liquids.  However, in my first weeks and months post op I did wait the 30 minutes after drinking a shake to have water. I found that I felt sated longer when I did this. Maybe it was just in my head, but that's what I did and I still swear by it.

I am like Karik when it comes to shakes.   While you don't have to wait, I also found that if I waited 30 minutes (sometimes up to an hour) after drinking a protein shake, I stayed full much longer than if I started drinking my water as soon as I finished the shake.  6 months post surgery, I still follow this plan if I happen to drink a shake.
