We put too much faith in the number on the scale...

i'm addicted to my scales and i have not even had surgery yet (coming up in17 days) I have lost 39.8 pounds, i'm frustrated cause it wont move to 40 and it does seem to affect my mood for awhile... but it also has a positive impact on me staying on my eating and exercising plans but i dont know if being addicted to my scale is harmful or not.  Its one of the very first things I do every single morning.

HW 350 SW 309 CW 150 Surgery 06/12/14 I admit I'm a scale addict.  My life is now amazing and God is guiding me thru every step of the way.

HI, I noticed when I go on cruises I swell up so much one time I wanted to get a picture done with my sister and she wanted to do it on the floor I did manage to get on the floor but couldn't cross or bend my legs to much and they were hard. I even have been on them and at times my shoes wouldn't fit any more due to swelling. Yesterday I started taking water pills due to swelling and I have never been to the bathroom so much ever during the night. I weighed myself yesterday and today, this morning I had a 7 pound loss. I thought I was seeing things and I can feel the difference. I haven't had my surgery yet but had to loose some weight before. I know I swell on cruises because I don't use any salt in my cooking at home and the ships do unless you request otherwise and I don't. I usually come home with at least a 10 pound gain after a cruise.

Thanks for the information Pebtash,

Its so helpful to know that others are dealing with the same things.  Best of luck with your surgery.  I wish you every success.

I used to travel for work. I think there is something about flying that makes the body retain fluids. I would always be up several pounds on the day after a flight. I don't know if it has to do with altitude or what, but I did it for years

I love this post.  And it's one of the reasons I stick to TrendWeight!  The scale can have entirely too much power over us.

Travel is notorious for causing massive water retention.  I would have been pretty distraught over a 10-lb. gain after vacation so I'm glad you saw some quick results.  And hurray for actually losing even more!
