What to have instead of cake at a bday party?!?!

So, my son's 2nd bday is coming up in a week. I will be about 3 and 1/2 months post op. My favorite thing in the world to do for my kids' birthdays is to make their cupcakes/cake.   My 2nd favorite thing in the world to do is to eat it with them on their birthday! But obviously that is not in the cards this year.  So i'm trying to think of an alternative to birthday cake that I might be able to have a few bites of as well. Any ideas?

Don't dream it. Be it.

This is going to sound harsh.... and maybe it is....

3.5 months out, right in major WL mode..... enjoy making them, enjoy the event, enjoy your sons joy, it's just another day in WL mode.

My surgery was right before thanksgiving and Xmas...... just another day. And what you eat does not define the event for you or anyone else.

But, think about this.... your sons 3rd Bday and your at goal weight and could probably fit in a few bites of the real deal !!!

I agree with this.

Bigger than eating changes are mind changes.  And the mind change needs to be that it's just not about the food.  Enjoy the party.  Focus on the party boy and just don't make it about what you are or aren't going to eat.  Because, no one ever died from skipping the cake.

This is the habit that my therapist is working on with me.  To learn that celebrations just don't have to be about the food.  They just don't.

I'm with frisco and trinoc. The choice shouldn't be cake or fake cake. The decision should be to enjoy the day without cake. You should have a fantastic time without it.

I like cajunlady's suggestion on protein muffins for a special occasion since you are still fairly early out.  I aint gonna lie, for me ... nothing is really going to take the place of eating actually cake at a party.  The only time I can resist is when the cake has whipped cream frosting.  Thank gawd my son's cake over the weekend had whip cream.  I prefer the over the top sugar laced buttercream frosting myself.  Wait ... I'm not helping ...

Can you enjoy a cup of hot decaf coffee with some SF irish cream syrup?  A sugar free popsicle?  It's so hard to think of what can be safe and "on plan" at 4 months out.  Sometimes it's best to just bite the bullet and not substitute it unless you really feel like it will satisfy you while everyone else eats cake.   You'd have to be careful on even just a few bites of something so sweet at 4 months out.  If you haven't indulged yet, that little bit of sugar will overload you and you might not feel well after.

You know what I do in that situation when I dont want to be too tempted?  I serve a piece to my sisters and then I hold one of their babies.  This way, I am too busy and distracted to eat.

But seriously, if you want something as close to cake as possible and feel like you want a safer bet, go with a small piece of a protein muffin.  :)

How cool is this!  Now I wish someone would make this for MY B-day.  I realize the two year old still needs a cake with frosting to smear all over their face for that great photo!

I was just at the grandson's B-day party and not one person noticed or cared that I didn't have cake.
