Pre-op weight loss goal

I went to a family cookout last Saturday and ate some things I shouldn't have (carrot cake, blueberry cake, pasta). The carb monkey was on my back. I was weighing between 212 and 216 pounds. This morning I got on the scale and I am 209.4 YAY!

I am going to try to make it to 200 before my surgery date on 9/23. Is this unrealistic? Should I even worry about losing more weight before surgery or should I just enjoy the days before surgery? I don't want to get into "food funeral mode", almost went there last Saturday...

Hey there, sweetie-pie,  Looking at your ticker, seems like you have been doing some serious pre-op work.  Good for you! That said, I think the question you asked is an interesting one- and one to think about as you get ready for this life changing procedure. You used the word "enjoy"...Hmmmm.  As in let me eat whatever before surgery because I enjoy doing it?  Do you really?  Is it enjoyable being where you have been?  Our relationship with food has to change if we are to be successful after surgery.  I've lost the weight, but am still working hard on the mental/emotional part of it--to get as healthy in my heart and head as my body is.  Inside, (and from numerous posts I've seen on this forum) I know that I can easily regain every pound back--WLS is no insurance policy with out the mental "rider" attached and practiced.  Continue with the excellent work; not neglecting the inside, too!  bonnie

Thanks Miss150.

Oh my gosh! You know, I didn't even realize I used the word "enjoy" when talking about food. Good catch :)

You are absolutely right though, I am one of those people *****wards herself and her children with food. I have told both my kids not to follow in my footsteps by doing the same. I have been going to a therapist for about a month now. I think our next topic better be food LOL!

Do you have to lose weight before surgery?  If not don't worry about it.  Just try to start drinking a shake for breakfast to get use to drinking protein shakes and try to fet rid of the carbs and sweets as much as possible.

Hi Jen. Yes, I was required to lose 1-2 pounds per month and not gain any during the 6-month process; started in December. I cut all added carbs (except for carbs in leafy green veggies, tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers and lettuce).

I have been drinking a couple of protein shakes for 2 months. My NUT said that I could eat between 1200 and 1400 calories per day (when I first started, I was eating between 800-900). I love the protein shakes. I just hope I do after the surgery...

I think that you should lose as much as you can before surgery, as long as you're making good, sustainable lifestyle changes.  If you're doing crazy crash diets, I'd pass.  :P

You're awesome, by the way.  I am seriously jealous that you weigh less now than I do 5.5 months post-op.  :D
