Fun with medical professionals
hey, don't let your pcp talk you out of getting to a normal bmi. listen to your weight loss surgeon, the expert. I am 5'4" and started at 247 and got to 120. my pcp thinks its a little low but is not concerned. get to the weight where you feel good and I bet its less than 180. never in a zillion years did i think i would get to this weight (which i haven't weighed since the 6th grade) but I feel so dang good without that extra.
what a dolt lab tech.. tell her you are so perfect that they want to study you. diane
My surgeon hasn't given me a goal either. Which is fine by me! :D I don't know if he will farther along? We'll see. I know that I'm just going to keep working and reevaluating as time goes on until I get to the me I want to be!
I love your answer for the lab tech. That would have been priceless.

Goals must be very tricky for most of us. Stiffle that little voice. You are doing so great!
My surgeon did not give me one. My PCP just shook his head in amazement that I'm doing so well-no goal tho. I still have 15-20 pounds until I will be where I want to be. I kind of think it may change a bit. MY body, my goal, my choice. My responsibility to get there. Yes, my health is way better than it was. Yes, I look way better than I did. But I am not there yet. It may take this entire 2nd year to get there but I will get there. My happiness is not dependent on being at goal, though. I am one happy old lady right now!
Goals are tricksy. It's why I set myself a bunch of them so I can reevaluate as I go. My goal is to find the best me, know what I mean? :)
My surgeon also didn't give me a goal. He just told me that I could expect to get to overweight if I had the surgery. Which I think implies that I can achieve more, but that my expectation should be "at least 174."
And I'm like you. Even if it takes me two (or more!) years to reach my goal, I'll keep working at it until I get there.

My surgeon and doctor both said 220 would be a good weight for me.
I'm past that now, cruising toward 170...but I may revise that to 180 because I am bony in places, and I don't like it. I want to look healthy, not sick. I think at 180, I will still have curves and look healthy even though the BMI chart says I should weigh no more than 154 for my frame (it is large). I have a feeling that I would look sickly down below 160. I am starting to wonder if 170 is even realistic for me.
Also, your lab tech was a a jerk...
