And it hits like a sledgehammer
You all warned me. You told me it would happen. BAM Weight loss has slooooowwwwwed. Last month was my first single digit loss. You know what? I'm not sweating it at all! I am sticking to my plan like a boss.
Here is where my mindset stands at this point. This entire process was about health. Not numbers on a scale, not sizes on a tag, but my health and well-being. In the past 6 weeks I've had some poor health reactions and my surgeon has determined it's because of the weight loss. Syncopy (basically, extreme dizziness) with loss of consciousness from extremely low blood pressure (I saw a 78/51 after one episode at work) and low blood sugar (it was a 60 after a smoothie last week). So, in response to that, I'm adjusting my plan and it's working. My blood pressure is back to a low normal and my blood sugar is back up above 70. I'm now eating every 3 hours (4-5 small meals a day) and I've added in complex carbs at one meal (I've been doing 1/2 a sprouted grain muffin at most breakfasts so far. I may try steel cut oats or quinoa today.)
I've been on this adjusted plan for a little over a week. So it isn't the cause of the slow down in loss. I think that has more to do with being 9 months out. However, even if I don't lose another pound and never hit that random goal I pulled out of a hat, I've succeeded so far and now it's time to have a mindset of no regain...and of rocking this like a boss for life. To that end, my health is the priority and not the numbers on a scale. I never dreamed I'd weigh 140 and wear a size 8. So I need to quit fretting about "goal weight" and realize that "goal health" has been achieved. Yes, if I keep losing I'll be thrilled. No, I'm not calling it yet. But I'm where I am for now and I'm happy to be here.
Both of you... trinoc and GrayC totally have a handle on this......
trinoc.... your under doctors supervision over your current issues..... that is first and foremost.
It really would be a good time to "stabilize" and put yourself into maintenance and let yourself equalize.
Once your body is running good and your issues are resolved, you can go back into a slower WL mode to lose the last weight..... like 2lbs. a month and go for a soft landing to your goal.
It's fine tuning from here on out and having the "tool box" of skills to control your weight will be paramount to long term maintenance.
Hope that made sense.... haven't been to sleep yet !

Thank you, frisco! You've seriously been such a help through this whole learning process. I think a switch to maintenance mindset is a good plan. And if I continue to drop slowly I'll consider it equilibration but not necessary to kill myself over a few pounds. I'm feeling it's time to find that maintenance group here on OH and join in!
