How much can you eat?
I definitely recommend figuring out what you dislike about them and solving that. Lots of people have only had mushy/overcooked veggies, but properly cooked veggies are delicious.

Hi Sarah, I just wanted to tell you that you don't have to not have starchy veggies or other starch items. As long as you are able to control the amount of starchy veggies or other starchy items you eat. A lot of people are not able to control their portion sizes when it comes to those items and have problems. But if your calories stay at a deficit to what your body needs to maintain weight, it doesn't matter if part of your calorie allowance comes from potatoes or pasta or chocolate. You will still lose weight.
The death to carbs voices are very loud here, but that is not the only way to lose weight.
Thanks, everyone, for your replies. I ate 3 oz yesterday and was comfortable, so I guess I'll try to up my intake a bit. I'm not a fan of veggies, other than starchy ones, so I'm not going to be adding them any time soon. I've never been a veggie eater, probably part of the reason I was fat.
Since the surgery...I have been trying things that I never liked my whole life & I've noticed my taste has changed...things I hated before I now like and things I loved, just don't taste right to me. So maybe you can try at least some veggies and you may like them now. My go-to veggie right now is (glazed carrots) frozen crinkle cut carrots with some butter & splenda brown sugar...2 minutes in the microwave....perfect! LOL
And remember..... the question is "how little can I eat and get my nutirition requirments in?" NOT "How much can I eat?" Use this wonderful tool you have been given to get rid of any food addicitons you may have. Don't fill up on zero nutiritional items. Protein first, then some Veggies. Period. You don't need Bread, pasta, chips, crackers etc. which are only fillers and were part of your old way of eating. Consider this a gift to try new ways. Before WLS I could eat a whole pizza and be hungry again in about 15 minutes. Now, I eat 2 - 3 oz. of chicken or turkey and a few bits of veggies and I'm full for hours. It is a wonderful, amazing, gift! Harris
You will find that your capacity will increase over time. For some this increase seems to come in spurts. I found that mine came at 4 months, 6 months, 9 months and then the last one at about 12 months.
At 4 months I was able to eat about 2 oz dense protein and a few tablespoons of vegetable. By 6 months I was up to 2.5 to 3.0 ounces with the same amount of vegetable. By 9 months I was at a solid 3 ounces plus the veggie and by 12 months I could eat 3.0 ounces of dense protein and 1/4 cup of vegetable.
Now at 3 years out (Sunday is my 3 year anniversary) I comfortably eat about a cup of food by volume. That includes 3 - 4 ounces of dense protein and 1/2 cup of vegetable to 3/4 cup of vegetable. I have great restriction still when I eat properly.
I suppose I can eat a little more than a cup, but I detest the discomfort that I feel should I over eat, and I know a cup of food leaves me satisfied an not over full.
Exactly, that is what scares me. I don't want to "over eat my sleeve" as my 5 year old reminds me at every meal. :) I want to eat enough to get my nutrition in, but I don't want to feel full, that hurts, and I don't want to feel unsatisfied, because that makes me crave other things. It is a difficult balancing act that I have in no way mastered.
It is a balancing act. I'm very new. Two weeks out and today is my first day of pureed. I've been hungry since about 5 days out of the hospital. I'm scared I'm going to eat too much because of this hunger. I'm measuring and following the plan the best I can. I just never expected it to be this hard.

Your doing fine and you "get it".....
Learning to recognize satiety is something to be learned..... we associated satisfied before by have a bloated/expanded fundus/stomach.
Under eating sleeve capacity has many advantages that can effect longer term eventual capacity and overall approach to eating.
At 5 years my capacity is about the same as 6 months out.

Could or would?
I'm 11.5 months out from surgery. I try to keep my protein around 3 ounces and any vegetables around 3/4 cup max. I find that over time I can eat more, but I stick to vegetables if I want more quantity.
