Oh my I can relate. Just chopped off 13 inches last week and donated it! Very less traumatic with the shorter hair. (I just posted pics this morning). Good luck and have fun!

I'm wondering if there was anyone who had baldness prior to surgery, what happened?  The top of my head has a large patch of bare scalp.  Losing any more hair would mean I will need a wig!  To make matters worse, I'm super white with black hair naturally... I'm writing if anyone with s hair problem prior to surgery can give their experience??

I went shorter and lighter (asymetrical bob with highlights), and I think it's made it less noticeable. It hasn't been massive hair loss, but the strands coming out in the shower are definitely more numerous than they used to be. Just keep reminding yourself that it's temporary, and it's probably not that noticeable to others.

My hair started falling out right on schedule at about 3-4 months, but I started with really thick hair so I don't think anyone noticed but me. But I cut it into a cute long bob, and then a cute stacked asymmetric bob (shorter in back, longer on front) that I'm loving. I never really liked short hair on myself pre-op, but since losing some weight, the shorter hair really shows off how much thinner my face is and my neck and collarbone so it turned out to be really flattering. Plus, it seems the bob/lob is really having a moment right now so you'll be super on trend and stylish! :-)

I have a few friends from here on OH that started taking Biotin and it really decreased the amount of hair loss they experienced. I don't know what doses or anything like that just the name of it. One of my friends did says she had to stop taking it because it caused not only the hair on her head to grow better but also some facial hair she found embarrassing so she preferred to deal with the hair loss and opted for a new hair do :-) Good Luck

Biotin doesn't prevent the hair loss from the telogen effluvium, which is what causes the post-op hair loss. If you Google it, you will see what causes it and that there really isn't anything you can do to prevent it.

Also, when people say that something decreased their hair loss, that is an impossible claim to make, since they have no idea what the hair loss was going to be if they did nothing! Some people lose a lot of hair and other people lose very little. The amount of time that the hair loss lasts also varies a bit from one person to the next, so people who claim that a product stopped or lessened the hair loss have no idea how long it would have lasted without that product or vitamin.

In a few months you'll be noticing new growth replacing the hair that has shed.  Think layers to blend in this new growth as it's emerging.

I had to do a short, pixie cut with everything swept to the front.  It's a great idea.

It really does suck - I empathize a LOT!  I had fine thinning hair to begin with and my hair guy estimates I lost at least half of it during the first 12-months post-op.  It's back now...at least to where it was before surgery.  I can't expect miracles
