Just going through the hoops with Kaiser (my insurer), and hoping to have the surgery this fall. I have a couple of appts in May, then have to take an 8 week course Kaiser offers to prepare their patients for the life style changes required to use the WLS tool. Also, my surgeon is requiring a stress test due to CAD, and my age (71).  I told him when he got through with me he could advertise as a geriatric bariatric surgeon. Hope you're feeling a little better, it's so easy to stress out and anticipate the worst no matter how insignificant the odds. Give your kids a hug, and have a great day, Fred

Kelly, Kelly, Kelly, Relax!  Breathe deeply, and let your breath out slowly. Now, statistically, the odds are so much in your favor, much more than when you drive to the store for some shopping.  Think of the number of auto accidents each day. This doesn't stop you from driving, you just adapt to the rat race, and keep on trucking. You're going to get this surgery behind you, and start your new life.  Keep looking at that light at the end of the tunnel. You've got a lot of folks looking forward to reading about your experiences on this forum. Don't panic! Your family will react to how you cope with this. I'm pulling for you, Fred

Sometimes, if you have been on antbiotics post-op, you get rid of some of the biota necessary for proper digestion. This can cause loose bowels.  You might try some probiotic yoghurt, or check with your PCP for a solution. As for the food issues, have you tried some No Sugar added applesauce? Or SF jello and/or puddings?  You can add SF chocolate syrup to your protein drinks, or other SF syrups.   A mini-blender allows you to reduce the consistancy of foods (add liquids while blending) that are too firm for your present regime. Topic: RE: Age restriction for surgery?
I don't know your age, but I'm 71 and hoping to get my sleeve in Denver this fall. If you're on Medicare, they pay for some WLS procedures. My surgeon says he cuts off at age 69, but also told me he once performed the surgery on a 74 year old, and it scared him, (the surgeon), due to the patients health conditions. HTH, Fred

Oh I think so Debi,   But you might want to get the things that tempt you out of the house. Maybe keep some V8 juice on hand for when you don't feel like broth. A little No Sugar Added applesauce, some SF chocolate syrup to add to your protein drinks, there are all kinds of possibilities. Just don't panic, and you'll be fine.  Get back on your pre-op regime and work at it. Good luck, Fred

Topic: RE: Meeting with the Surgeon
Hi, There is a really great list of questions for your surgeon in the "Weight Loss Surgery For Dummies" book.   I got mine from Barnes & Noble, (in paperback), but it's widely available, and can be bought on the internet too.  Also may be available at your library. You may want to look at the list and copy the ones you want answers to, and add any, that are not on the list, that occur to you.  It's a pretty comprehensive list though. HTH, Fred

Wendy, Thanks for your post. I am looking forward to being sleeved, and you have just confirmed my decision, yet again. Every time I get on the VSG forum, I become more anxious to get my surgery behind me. Again, thanks for letting us know there is hope. Fred

Topic: RE: Question for BMI's over 50
Hi Becky, Don't forget you can always modify your goal as you approach success. Say you set your initial goal at 100 lb. weight loss.  When you reach that point, or approach it, you can always reset your "final" goal to a 125 lb. weight loss.   And just keep applying that logi****il you are no longer losing weight long term (I'm not talking about temporary stalls here). Topic: RE: Any Aussie Sleevers?

Gday mate, I'm not in Australia, (worked a few years in Alice Springs, and loved it), but I think the only difference with the surgery between here and there is that the surgery is performed upside down. I too, am pre-op, and the wait is probably a lot more nerve wracking than the actual surgery. I'll be looking for your future posts as you move long your journey.  I enjoy the posts from all the down under folks. Keep posting, Fred

Hi Pielet, As a pr-op sleevester your post has inspired me. I cannot picture myself down as much as you have accomplished. It was so good to hear about someone elses success. Keep up the good work, and keep posting for us who need to be bolstered in our decision to have the WLS. Thanks again, Fred

Welcome to the friendliest forum on the OH board. I'm still pre-op, but I hope your change in WLS procedures turns out to be a blessing for you. Read as much as you can on this forum, the folks here are very supportive, and I have gained a lot of info on what to expect post-op, dieting inputs, etc. Best of luck on your weight loss journey, Fred

Lisa, I also got some SF chocolate syrup at Walmarts to use in my protein drinks.  Think they have SF caramel, too. They carry Crystal Lite, and the store brand equivalent in several flabors. They also have some Luigi's ices in the ice cream section that are great.  Three lemon and three cherry cups in each box, they're sugar free, 6 ounces, and only 35 calories each (Ithink). Look for the no sugar added apple sauce, sprinkle on a little cinnamon, really good, and easy on the stomach. If you like peanut butter, consider ordering the PB2. Some of these may not be appropriate immediately post op, but you might consider them for later. If you don't have a mini-blender, I picked one up there for under $20. Hope this helps, Fred

Topic: RE: Questions for Surgeon
If you require any new meds post-op (pain meds), can you get the prescriptions filled before surgery? What about over the counter aids, like gas-x? Is there someone from the office you can call 24/7 in case of complications? Thats all I can think of right now, but you can always call your surgeons office with more questions as they occur. Fred

I  know most of you are dog lovers and will help us. Our neighbour has Lost  her Chihuahua and  is desperate to find him. She does a lot of  travelling and always takes her dog with  her. Yesterday,  she was sitting on the couch watching TV. She called out for Her  puppy  with no response, and the back door was  open. She has been putting  up signs everywhere. If  you see this dog, please let me know and I will notify  her. Your  help would be greatly  appreciated.

Topic: RE: Has anyone heard about Byetta?
You may want to ask your nut about Meridia as an alternate to Byetta, especially if you don't have diabetes. At one of my Weight Connections meetings one of the other patients said he was on Meridia and lost about 14 pounds in 21 days, I believe. Anyways, check it out with your nut.  It does require a prescription, and blood pressure monitoring, but may be the answer you are seeking. Fred

Topic: RE: I would like one..What do you use?
I picked up a bare bones miniblender at walmart for under 20 dollars.  It has a single clear plastic container with markings for ounces, etc.   There are two lids, one for the mixing, and one to sip your drink through. Gets the job done for me, but I have to admit I only use it to mix up my protein shakes, and cannot put the container in the dishwasher (per instructions). Good luck with your selection, Fred
