Hi, everyone!  Went to my first support group meeting yesterday at Womens and Childrens in Charleston.  It was nice to meet with others to discuss WLS and put some faces with the names seen here.  I met Joy (Butterjoy) which was a treat for me!  Her smile alone would give her away!! Several people commented about wanting to see more activity on the WV forum site here.  (Myself included.)  Cira has offered to start a thread each day to get us going.  (Thanks, Cira!!)   The speaker talked about protein last night.  When the body needs protein it will take it from areas first that are not critical, such as your hair.  Hence the hair loss.  She had several protein drinks and bars for us to sample and purchase, if desired.  It was an interesting meeting.

Now ... how about some updates ... Karen and Ginger from Bluefield, Laureen from Wheeling, Ellen, Crystal and Joy from Charleston, Jana from Rockport, Julie from Berkely County, Mary Kay from Bridgeport, Dottie from Procious, Melinda from Nitro, Cira from Charles Town, Panhead from Barboursville  to name a few.  How is everyone doing?

As for me, I met with the phycologist on Monday.  5 hours; most of which was completing paperwork.  So, hopefully, that can be checked off my to do list of pre-op stuff.  What about you?

Hugs,  -  Pat

Hi Pat!

I posted a blog on my page. I went Monday to my monthly checkin. I didn't lose any weight but I lost some inches. I am starting my 4th month now. It's going by so fast. I didn't think it would but it is. 2 months to go!!!!  I am so excited. There is a lot that I have to do from now until then.

Hugs to you as well!!!!((((((((hugs))))))))

Jana - I checked out your blog.  I was at Dr. Shin's office and saw you!!  I was in an exam room working on paperwork when the physcologist came to take me to her office.  I believe you were sitting on a chair near the scale.  Oh, I wish I had known it was you!  Congratulations on the inches lost!  That's wonderful!!  Hugs,  Pat

Hi Jana,

I read your blog and girl I am very proud of you.  When I was having my supervised monthly visits I didn't lose all the time but I was losing inches and to me that was golden!  One month I gained like 3 pounds and I was so scared that I was not going to be approved but after that I made sure to lose what I gained and lose a few more until it was time to submit the papers to the insurance. Is your doctor asking you to lose a certain amount?

Two more months and you will be a Loser!!!!!!  That time will fly by!

Wishing you all the best in your journey. Keep up the great work.

Hi Pat,

I am so happy that you had a great time going to a support group. I can not stress enough how important it is to have somewhere to go, meet with fellow wls patients and talk about things that you can only relate with others that are going through the same as you. I am so glad you got to meet Joy. She is such a sweetheart. I wish I wasn't so far so I could meet her too.

Good luck with with your journey. I hope everything continues to go smoothly for you.

As for starting a daily thread I will do it and hopefully everyone decieds to participate. If no one can make it to a support group it is always good to have this place to turn to.

Ok a little about me. I am a Mom of 6 children 3 adult with their own kids and 3 young children.  I have a total of 4 grandbabies now with the last one just born almost 4 weeks ago.  I am 22 months post op 10 pounds under my dr's goal weight. I got pregnant 3 months post op (not something I planned) it happened. I kept losing weight throughout my pregnancy and only gained 8 pounds towards the last two weeks of my pregnancy. Then when I had the baby I lost another 33 pounds. Thank goodness the baby was healthy she was just a tiny little thing because of the malabsorption.  I am currently nursing so I am waiting indefinitely to plan to have my excess skin removed.

Take care and keep me posted on how everything goes for you.

Hugs,

Cira - Thanks so much!  Getting pregnant 3 months post op and having a healthy baby certainly shows how carefully you took care of yourself.  She is beautiful!!  Congratulations!  And thanks, Cira, for starting a daily thread.  I've enjoyed reading your recent posts of helpful ideas.

Thank you Pat for the compliment of the baby she is such a blessing.  Yes I made sure to follow everything that all my doctors told me to do.  I took all my vitmains religiously and make sure to keep my protein up.

Hi there!  Thanks for getting this thread going today.  I am scheduled for my VSG next Tuesday, 2/10 with Dr. Stickler at CAMC - Memorial.  I went for my pre-op last Friday and the Anesthe.Doc told me I was too high of a risk to have my surgery at Women's and Children's Hospital.  He said they don't have an ICU there nor a Cardiologist on staff.  So they rescheduled my surgery for 2/10.  I am still very nervous about being put to sleep but I am really trying to keep positive.  I have lost 39 pounds pre-op but tonight I feel like I have gained it all back for some reason.   I so want this to be successful and safe and to go well.  I have never been in the hospital before.  Thanks for your prayers and I will update soon.

Hi Karen,

Congratulations on your upcoming surgery!!!  I am glad that the doctors are going to do your surgery where they can make sure that everything goes well for you.  I know how scary it is to have major surgery but stay positive everything is going to go great for you.

Congratulations on losing 39 pounds pre op that is fantastic and you should be very proud of yourself!!!
Nerves will get the best of you so try to stay relaxed and know that in just 5 more days you will be celebrating the start of your new life!!!!

I will definitely keep you in my thoughts and prayers.  Do you have anyone (an angel)who will post an update the day of your surgery? If not I would love to offer if you want me to be your angel.  Let m know.

God Bless!
