Nuva Ring refridgeration?

I called my gynecologist yesterday and asked if I could be put on the Nuva Ring b/c of my chances of having surgery.etc. I do not plan on having sex until I find the right guy and get married, but I have to take it for endometriosis and ovarian cysts. I wish they would label it something other than BCP's because that isn't what it is always used for....anyways the Nurse said that it has to be kept in the fridge. Has anyone else heard of this?

Yes, you have to refrigerate the ring.  You only get one ring at a time.  You keep it in the fridge until you put it in.  I usually get a new ring a few days before I have to insert it, so it's only in the fridge for few days.    You put the ring in for three weeks then take it out for a week...that's the week you get your period.  Then you put a new one in.  And the cycle repeats.  I like using the ring better than taking the pill.  Good luck! I use it and I've never been told to refridgerate it!  EVER!  Weird... (going right now to read package!) Okay, I'm back, my package says nothing about refridgeration... just store in a cool dry place.  It specifically says that after dispensing to the patient that it can be stored for up to 4 months at up to 77 degrees... with excursions permitted to 86 degrees.  It does say that you should not store in direct sunlight.  It says refrigerate for the pharmacy. WHEW!

When I pick it up from the pharmacy, they keep it refrigerated, as well.  Hmmmm....I hope the temp doesn't hurt its effectiveness!

Read the back of the box... I'm safe... was really wondering for a minute since they have never put that on the package that I needed to refridgerate it! OH, and they give me 3 months at a time.

I looked at a page on the net and it said something about it could be left out for so many months, i am not for sure. If you go to the main Nuva Ring site they have a little thing that counts and tells u when to take it out for free. Plus i think there is a certificate for a free month.

Isn't funny how different each doctor/pharmacy is?  I always keep mine refrigerated because that's what they told me.  One time we went out of town for the weekend and I wasn't scheduled to put my new ring in until Sunday evening.  So, I packed it in a small cooler with a few ice packs...LOL!!!   Tina

I just got the Nuva-Ring yesterday, have not tried it yet (have to wait for period to start it).  I received 3 month's supply, and they told me to keep them in the refrigerator until I use it.  The packages also say "keep refrigerated" until use... I'm in So. Calif. so it gets pretty hot here :)

When I got it from my pharmacy they had it refridgerated... so I asked him if I needed to do the same... he said no...

The back of the box says to keep it refridgerated until you disperse to the patient... then it can be kept at room temperature for like 30 days... something like that... So when YOU get it, it does NOT need to be put in the fridge, unless you plan on keeping it for a long period of time without using it. I would get mine a few days before needing to put it in. I use Nuvaring too and I was told to refrigerate it as well.  Also, you may want to take it out for surgery.  My surgeon told us to stop any hormonal birth control for 1 month after surgery because hormonal birth control increases the chance of blood clots. Christine
