What made you decide on surgery?
I seriously thought about it and discussed it with doctors for years while I tried all the alternatives...lo cal, nutrisystem, ww, TOPS, etc...after failing at them time after time, I simply decided I couldn't live like this anymore, and I obviously couldn't handle it on my own. I needed help. More help than any diet or group could give me. Don't get me wrong - no disrespect to any of the diets or programs I tried...I just am not strong enough to do it on my own. This was one nut I couldn't tighten without the wrench. Now I have the wrench and I am trying again.
How long was your pre-op program?
I applied for surgery in February 06, my surgery was September 06 - thats how long it took for me to do all the tests and required nutrition classes.
When did you have your surgery?
19 Sep 06
What type of surgery did you have?
Lap-RNY, and gall bladder removal.
What was your BMI at the time of surgery?
I'm not sure - above 50.
Have you reached your goal weight/BMI yet?
Oh no, I've still got a long road to travel.
How long has it taken you?
I hope to reach it within a year of my surgery.
What is your greatest accomplishment since surgery?
I have encouraged and supported a friend who needs it, but was afraid. She just told me today her insurance will cover her and she is looking into it more seriously.
What is your greatest dissapointment since surgery?
It is harder than I thought it would be. When they told me I would be eating six small meals a day (and gave me sample meals), I thought - no prob. BUT It is hard...my stomach doesn't hold what it used to *DUH*. And protein drinks...I again thought I could easily get enough protein with protein powders, but I have yet to find one that doesn't make me....
But am I disappointed?...no, and I hope to never be.
