Your post made me smile...I work in a hospital and have been fortunate to have had a great post op course.  There are other employees in the hospital who have also had WLS.  .Not being the first, was a blessing.  I have heard all the comments and tried to remain positive...this has made me even more determined to take this journey seriously.  I need to be a good example of what is possible after WLS;  I want to be healthy for my family and friends. The problem with health care workers discussing WLS is that these folks only see sick WLS patients...they know what it looks like to have a stricture, perforation, malnutrition, dehydration....the list is in your consent for surgery.  Hospital folks don't see healthy WLS patients because we look normal and do not require their services...if you want info on a disease state, then check with this crowd. Otherwise, ask your real friends and family, and show them one step at a time how successful your journey is!  Best of luck with your continued success.Your post was very thought provoking... Thanks, MaryG

It is so lucky that we have OH to help us through all this! This was my first new topic post ever! It's so cool to have so many people that are just like me who understand exactly what I'm going through. I really feel as if I've found a home here, where I can be myself   , and give/get support , too!

You left out one 'important thing to do'---research ALL the various forms of WLS (it's not 'THAT' surgery, after all it's 'one of THOSE surgeries) so you can choose the one that's right for YOU.

Very true! I decided to get the RNY and many people ask me why I don't want to get the gastric banding. The main reasons I chose RNY are because I feel I need the extra help the malabsorbtion will give me and because a higher percentage of my excess weight will probably be lost. Since my BMI is 39, I don't think I have any other options, but maybe I'm wrong?
