Walmart vent!!!

I went to Walmart this morning and while I was there I thought I'd look at the body shapers.  I have that horrid "roll" just above my waistline that doesn't look too pleasant when I wear certain clothes.  Anyway, I had picked up one of the shapers that looked like it might work....along with a pair of capris to try on.  The lady at the fitting room tells me that I'm not allowed to try on the shaper since it goes against the bare skin of the crotch area.  What????  I'm not going to buy it if I can't try it on!!!  And by the way, the last time I checked, they still let you try on bathing suits so what is the difference? So I've been home for a few hours and decided to call a manager at the store who proceeds to tell me that state health laws are the ones who mandate this.  No offense to anyone, but I'm not too sure an asst mgr of a retail store knows the state health laws.  I'm a nurse and I do know that there are some mighty mean staph infections, fungal infections, and many other unknown pathogens not to mention things like lice, scabies, etc that can be transmitted by trying on just regular clothing, not just "undergarments".  I'm just pi$$ed since I really need a body shaper for a decent price and this one at Walmart was on clearance.  I think this is rediculous.  Anybody ever heard of this supposed "health law"?  Other stores must not have since I've tried on a body shaper at Belk before.  OK, off my soapbox now, lol.

Yes honey that is true. Because i did not know that either. I bought some underwear for my son and they were to little. I bought 2 pagkages. Well i took the one back that was not open and they told me the same thing. Even earrings. My friend gave me a pair of erring and necklace for christmas.  The necklace was to small, so i went to its fashion to take them back i did not even want a refund i just wanted to exchange them. She told me they could not do that becuse there is a chance you could have put them in your ear. Now with hiv so big they can not take the chance.

I completely understand the hygeine issue but like I said before, the last time I checked, they will let you try on swim suits with the only protective barrier in the crotch area being that thin piece of sticky paper that says not to remove it.  If I can walk in there and try on a swimsuit, then why can't I try on this thing?  BTW, that's crazy that they wouldn't exchange the unopened underwear.  How can a communicable disease be on an item that hasnt' even been opened?  I've studied germs, microbiology, communicable diseases etc and this is a new one on me.  Most people who have been educated on these types of things know that the main diseases that can be transmitted via clothing are not the ones that would be just found on undergarments.  HIV, for example would be dead on clothing unless it was FRESH blood and the next person trying the garment on put in on within a very very short time frame.  Otherwise, HIV and the like are rendered dead.  Sorry, not trying to take this out on you but I'm just mad, can you tell??? lol

Why not just call your state dept of health and human services and ask if the state law really says that? Or, if your state's attorney general has a Consumer's Affairs Offfice, they can alsso help with info. If it doesn't call the manager back and educate him... Most state depts are very helpful, at least here in Nebraska.

Yes, when trying a bathing suit on you must keep you undewear on and bathing suits are not returnable.  I image it is the same for a body shaper.  Personally, I wouldn't try a bathing suit on without my underwear on and I would wa**** as soon as I got it home.

I may just have to do that.  I refuse to purchase and item that costs anywhere from $15 to $30 that I'm not allowed to try on, and then won't be able to return/exchange if it doesn't fit.  Thanks for the suggestion!!

I've tried on shapers before at Walmart with my underwear on.  Also, I returned a swimsuit with the tags still on at Walmart just this past summer, and returned a capri shaper with the tags still on at at Walmart (it was too flimsy) just a few months ago.  I haven't tried to try one on lately at Walmart though.  I have tried them on at Dillards, Kohls, Macy's, and JC Penney.  You might try a better department store.  I did buy a great one at Walmart or Kmart (no tag inside to check the maker) that runs from below the breast to the lower thigh with vertical boning down the stomach area.  It sucks in all my hangy stuff in the mid-section so I don't look like a muffin top and it doesn't stick to my clothes.  I also bought "The Body Wrap" but the fabric sticks to my clothes.  I have a tank top shaper from Ganz that I bought at Kohl's that I wear under tops or with my longline that helps with the muffin top as well.   I also have problems with Walmart (terrible service, parking, and no layaway) but who can beat the prices!   Good luck!

So sorry to hear you had a miserable experience.  I bought 2 shapers at Target & tired them on at home.  They did let me return the 1 I didn't like, all I needed was my receipt.  I believe they have a good return policy.   I don't understand why they wouldn't let you try them on though, people try on bathsuits!!

I just tried on a body shaper at Walmart this weekend with no problems.  I have to try on everything because I never know what size I'm going to need.  They didn't give me any problems.  I guess it depends on who's on duty. Lurnia

Pick out some other clothes to try on, 'hide' the shaper in the middle of them by draping the clothes over your arm.  Don't take everything out of the cart in front of them and let them see what you're trying on.  They'll only count the hangers.  I know it sounds a little shady, but there are ways to get around the 'dressing room vigilantes' that take their job WAY to seriously. I've tried on shapers at Catherines.  I just walked right on into the dressing room, they didn't have anyone standing there, and I never 'wait/ring bell for attendant', unless I need them to unlock a door.  And, yes, I kept my panties on while trying them on, just like I would a swimsuit.
