Red Lobster - your help needed folks

Today a group of us gastric bypass patients visited Red Lobster.  We were told that there is a corporate rule that disallows adults from ordering from the children's menu.  And, I don't normally want to order off of kid's menus as they are stuff I cant have... mac and cheese, corn dogs, etc. But they happen to have a very nutritional menu including grilled chicken, broiled fish and steamed veggies.  I think we need to let our voices be heard.  I have already gotten on Redlobster.com and filled out the forms, letting them know that we will get on the Bariatriceating and Obesityhelp boards and advertise this negative decision that they have put in place.  So, let's all get out there and make our voices be heard!!!!  I believe if we would all join together, we will be able to get these rules changed.

There is a way around this at any/all restaurants.  Order your food to go.  They have no way to "prove" or "disprove" that you're not ordering for a child.

I think anyone and everyone should be able to order from the kids menu.  Heaven knows the portions are a lot more sensible for EVERYONE.  Hello, we have an obesity epidemic in this country.  A restaurant meal will last me a minimum of 3 meals these days.

I have been to Red Lobster with my DH who had RNY, so the both of us have limited eating capacity. They have allowed us to share a meal at no extra charge. This was a great solution for us and much better than a children's menu.

Does your surgeon's office provide a national card that allows you to eat of the children's menu? Two of my friends have had WLS and have no trouble because they just show the card. I will go the red lobster site anyhow-- You should be able to order what you want from wherever you want, regardless! My hubby orders a children's chicken and dumplings at cracker barrel all the time. You are still paying for a meal!

In this country where the food comes supersized no one forces you to eat more or less then you want.  Eat what you can and throw the rest out or take it home.  If we all got charged by how much we ate, imagine what our presurgery bill might have been like.  Ughhhh not pleasant to think about at all.  Can you imagine going into a buffet and them saying sorry we are gonna charge you extra because you eat alot.  No one would think that was fair either. I never order off a kid menu and I eat out often. I find a great variety of acceptable foods on the appetizer menu at most places. Tuna dip, shrimp...... If I order a meal I get a to go box. Eating out is a big part of my week and I do not want special trearment I want to be normal a I can be. So I am sorry I just cannot participate in this effort. Best of luck if you feel strongly about it then I wish you success. Many places offer light menus too. Laurie

I understand for those who cannot support the effort. I don't normally make a habit of eating off of childen's menus. They mostly are not nutritional.  However, there were some great choices on this one.  They would not take the card that a few of the ladies had.  They simply stated that its their corporate office's rule that adults can't order off the kids' menu.  Thanks for listening, and for those who would like to participate, remember its redlobster.com

I'm in the minority here, but I don't expect to have any special accommodations made when I go to a restaurant.  I order a normal meal, eat what I can, box the rest, and enjoy the leftovers at home.  Most average eaters can't finish the huge meals at restaurants either.  The way I look at it, I made the choice to have this surgery, and I also make the choice to eat out.  I might not be able to eat everything at one sitting any more, but I'm getting the same value I did before, the difference being that it is spread out over several days.  If a restaurant offers options for the light eater -- great.  More power to them.  But I personally do not expect them to do so.  I guess if I were at a restaurant with a bunch of other RNY patients, I'd split meals with them if I didn't want to have leftovers.  That would be a simple solution.  Red Lobster is one of my favorite spots.  I can always find something to eat there.  Tess
