Hi there, I have a few consults with surgeons here in So. California.  Someone mentioned they had work done in Mexico. Now, my in laws go there for all of their health needs, I am just not sure I would.... would you go to Mexico for Plastic Surgery if it was substantially less than here? If you were paying all out of pocket? Just wanting to see what others would do! Kimberly

I did~~~ And will again. My doctor teaches at UCLA, yet he's a Hispanic surgeon. Yes, Mexico is the Mecca of plastics. They also have been performing WLS longer than American doctors due to regulations FDA puts on "experimental surgeries".  The hospital was clean. Universal precautions were used. Food was great (According to my hubby). I can't wait to go back for plastics!

I wouldn't.  Plastic surgery involves a lot of follow-up.  As formerly obese individuals our skin is compromised and there is a higher risk of infection after sugery.  I had a bad infection after my lower body lift that required 2 months of packing before it healed.  I'm glad I decided to go with a local surgeon.  Just my experience. Hi there, I never thought about the skin now that we are thinner and all that. Good point!

How long would it take you to drive from your home to the surgeon's location? What kind of policies does the surgeon have about aftercare?  What about complications?  What about revisions?  Is the surgery done in a hospital or a dr's office?  I have had a LOT of PS.  For me personally, I would NEVER, EVER consider having surgery in another country. There are waaaaay too many things that could go wrong.  I have had seromas that had to be drained (thighs.)  I've had infections (arms and thighs)  I needed revisions (arm, neck, thighs) Maybe I'm a chicken... but there's just too much risk for me.  Susan

HI Susan, This is good to hear. It is about a 2 hour drive from my house to TJ, Mexico. I am still not sure how I feel about it but am leaning towards no.....I have a couple of consults lined up here in Cali.  It is good to hear your opinion about the aftercare, it is true that so much can go wrong. Thanks!!!!
