There are a number of articles in the recent SOARD (surgery for obesity and related disorders) journal on this very thing.

If it hurts, assume it IS something, don't ignore it.

Seems elemental, doesn't it?

One clue for IH. Check your op report. Higher occurences of lap procedure rny done retro colic. Look for those words. And see if you can figure out if the mesentery defect was closed or left open.

Point those out to your surgeon and ask to be tested with barium FOOD if the standard barium liquid tests show nothing.

As we see on yahoo grads, average length of time from first pain to surgery is 2 yrs! Not everyone HAS 2 yrs!

Glad you posted this. Altho mine was 14 yrs ago, and not done lap at all, the risk is still there for me, as well. While I know what to look for, in theory, having seen it 100 times, I would be in the same position of trying to get the doc to look for that very thing in me, and I semi speak their language, when pressed.

Intestines are kinda like hoses with high pressure water in them and can squirm and twist, when food is passing. And that's ok, unless they can't UNTWIST.

We take the very best care of ourselves when we track:
1. onset of pain, gently or sudden
2. how long after eating or drink (what)
3. describe pain, spasms, squeeze, like labor (comes and goes), clamps down
4. change in nausea, dry heaves, bowels
5. duration of pain, how it feels when it subsides
6. does Levsin help?

The more info you can give, the better your chances of being treated, not brushed off.

P.S.  My year + long absence has NOTHING to do with my WLS, or my type of WLS. See my profile.
