Fat people jokes?

So now that I have lost 85 pounds, I have found that people are VERY comfortable about making fat people jokes, and talking about fat people around me. Why is this? I am completely offended to be included!

I was completely floored the first time. I had the principal of my son's school talking about a couple who goes to their church. How she is so fat that she is on oxygen and how the floor moves when she walks through the church. At first I have to admit I felt a little privileged to be in this new world of snobs... but only for a minute! The next time it happend I was completely insulted! I told a new "friend" that I am 8 months post op and she said "YOU??? You look so normal!"  What is normal?
I guess this is something I am gonna have to learn to tollorate, or learn some quick snappy comeback.

Any suggestions on how to handle this situation?

Knowing me....I would probably look at that person and whip out my before photos of me at 273 that are ALWAYS in my purse.   Then I would probably ask them why they think that it is so funny to have a weight problem.    Then I would tell them that they offended me and many other former overweight people.   It is never good to make fun of others even jokingly.   God could have made that person obese the same as he allowed us to get that way.   People need to think before they put there foot in their mouths.   LOL

Hugs and blessings ~~~ Vivian

First, that principal was so unprofessional that she should have been reported to the super.  I would worry that if she is talking about a CHURCH member what is she saying about her staff, students out of confidentiality.

Why do people still think being fat is so wrong.  I wish I could make every individual that has never been fat be fat for a day and go through what we go through on a daily basis.  I think that would solve alot of the negativity we experience.  Take care.  Tracy

P.S.  Congrats on your weight loss.

I agree 100%! Sounds like this principal does no belong in church and definitely not around kids who might be overweight. I'd now be afraid he'd treat my child or my friends child different for being overweight or not. That's just not right in so many ways.

Fat jokes are as funny as ethnic jokes and gay jokes....that is to say, they are not funny!  We have the advantage of being able to enjoy this fantastic change in our outward appearance.  With that advantage comes the responsibility of never accepting a fat or disparaging joke or remark from anyone to go unchallenged.
