Headaches from Biotin?

Over the past week I've been having almost daily headaches.  Except for the first day, which was a throbber, the headaches are low level, but still annoying.  My surgery is scheduled for 7/28, so I started taking a Biotin supplement last week.  Do you think the Biotin could be causing the headaches?

I guess anything is possible, but I have never had any headaches from biotin and I take 5000 mcg daily.  Do you have allergies and could that be what is causing the headaches?  Or are you making sure you are well-hydrated?  Are you a caffeine drinker and have you changed the caffeine intake in your diet?  Just some random thoughts...

Are you staying well hydrated. Poor hydration is a key cause for many types of headaches.  Have you recently stopped some common foods in preparation for surgery, such as caffeine, soda, etc? Have you recently started consuming more artificial sugars (they give me major headaches).  How's your blood pressure? Are you sleeping well?

So many things can cause a headache, and certainly biotin could be among those. The best thing would be to carefully assess what's changed and trying changing it back.

JUST my personal opinion:  You couldn't convince me that biotin really helps with the hair issue. It seems almost every WLS person I've known in 6+ years has tried it and everyone has still lost a lot of hair. It's far more than just a single nutritional deficiency, but surgical stress, hormonal inbalance, low protein, fast weight loss.

Good health on your upcoming surgery.

Hi Ann.  I am not convinced that biotin will stop hair loss either, but I know, for me, my hair grows in faster and healthier. My nails also grow faster and stronger, and my skin is much healthier looking. I started taking biotin to grow my hair to donate. :)

I'm not counting on it to stop the hair loss though, but I will take it to hopefully help with the regrowth. :)

It's definitely not caffeine.  I stopped using caffeine years ago when I discovered it triggered migraines.  Blood pressure is steady, just had it checked this morning.  Sleeping is about the same as usual.  I'm not on the 2 week pre-op diet, so haven't made any big diet changes in the last week.  Artificial sugar use is about the same also.  I'm pretty good with drinking fluids, but will try to increase intake anyway.  If Biotin isn't a likely suspect, I guess I'll just take a tylenol and keep on trucking.

I don't know that biotin is going to make any difference with hair loss, I'm just trying to hedge my bets.  I'm really attached to my hair and just want to feel like I'm doing all I can do to hang on to it.  I also plan to follow the doctor's advice on protein and vitamin supplements.  And I'll probably also keep my fingers crossed, pray alot and carry a rabbit's foot...

I doubt it is the Biotin as I have never heard of headaches being an issue with that. Have you eliminated anything from your diet in anticipation of surgery or cut way back on carbs? Could be caffeine withdrawal, soda pop withdrawal, junk food withdrawal, sugar withdrawal, or dehydration if you are not getting enough liquids in.              -Wanda
