I have also had this same question!  I get different answers.  So, I really don't want to get pregnant now, or maybe ever.  I just can't trust the pill when there are so many different medical opinions out there. So I am starting the Nuvaring.  Good luck!  If you hear of anything better, let me know!! :)

Mirena. Little or no periods, no hormone circulating in bloodstream, so no weight gain. Nothing to remember or forget.  You don't even know it's there.

Yes there are alot of alternatives out there and like you I gained my weight due to Depo shots. I am having to look into a form of birth control myself but I'm alittle different then most people. I have PCOS and cervical cancer so nuvaring cant be used due to it touches cervix and too sensitive!! Patch and pill make me bleed for 2 weeks at a time. My dr is wanting to put Merina in (iud) we tried once at office but my cervix is closed so it will have to be inserted when I have my WLS!! If BC pills has worked for you in past I would continue with it. Good Luck

I know this was an old post, but I was just wondering if they ended up doing the Mirena when you had your surgery.  Did your bariatric doctor do it for you?  Is that something they do on a regular basis?  I know these are personal questions, so if you want to ignore me, it's totally fine.  I was just curious...I'm needing different options.  Thanks!

I love my Implanon. I am on the third one, had the first two put in in Australia.
It is still very new in the USA, but has been around in Europe and Australia for many years.

It is a small rod that is inserted under the skin in the upper inner arm. It is very low dose and lasts for 3 years.

ISnt that the same thing as Noraplant? That was a hit in the 90's then went away due to complications

You could stay on the pill and add a 2nd form such as VCF film. You buy it OTC at Walmart or a drug store and it's a little square of dissolvable paperlike stuff that you insert vaginally about 30 min before intercourse. Or you could use another type of spermicide or condoms. There are alot of other options too. I would stay away from ortho-evra patch. It has documented increased risk of thrombo embolisms. Good luck.

I had this same question a couple of years ago, and called my surgeon. They told me they hadn't seen any absorption problems with the pill. I never had any scares or problems when I took the pill, but I was always careful to take it the exact same time every day, as recommended.  I set an alarm on my phone to help me not forget.

There is quite a bit of information out on the Nuva Ring that it may cause or increase risk of blood clots. I'm not an expert on it, and I'm definitely not saying it's a bad option. It's something I've heard about a few times recently. So, just be sure to research your options as thoroughly as possible.

There is documentation that gastric bypass can reduce absorption of bc pills and other medications too. You can check the pregnancy board and hear of many cases of pregnancy while on the pill.
