I was chatting with another poster who had this surgery to repair her sphincter muscle, build a perineal wall and add some collagen to her # 1 area. I am going to have this same surgery (the # 2 and perineal wall one, not the collagen cuz I have nerve damage) so we are supporting each other.  Anyway, at work today, I happened to mention my doctor’s name (the urologist) and another teacher began to tell me about her experience with incontinence. She is 38 and I am 35. We talked about how long we put up with these symptoms because we were too embarrassed to talk about it. In my case, I felt like all my health problems were because I was too fat. So many of us are like that, I think. So, I was wondering. Would anyone out there be brave enough to admit that they have a problem with skid stains and that they pee in their pants? If you are not embarrassed to admit it, reply and let me know. I wonder how many people deal with these issues and never seek medical help.

I too am a pee-er with sneezing, coughing and now extended walking.  I thought it would get better with the weight loss but it has in fact gotten worse, probably because I am much more active now.  My OB-Gyn sent me to a physical therapist who I saw for the first time today, actually.  What I learned is that my pelvic muscles never relax ( I equate it to my muscles having ADD) and so they are not properly trained in their function for stopping and starting the pee flow...I'm told that this is treatable and retrainable but will take several months to completely go away.  Until then, I can exercise all I want but should not run or do kick boxing as these are the things that really cause me problems now.

Thanks for bringing up such an uncomfortable issue.

I had the sphincter repair along with the perineal wall repair.  I also had nerve damage so I have and am still dealing with that.  The surgery was done by my gyno and colorectal dr at the same time.  The damage was caused by a forcept delivery when I had my son.  I never had skid marks, just incontinence.  I won't lie, the surgery is awful.  It takes a while to heal.

Me too! I thought it was my weight and that after surgery it would get better but it has gotten worse! I guess I should talk to my Dr about it. You are definitely not alone.

I had the bladder reroute 7/2008.  I do not have sneezing or coughing any more however I still have problems with skid and brown spots. Thanks so much for the honesty.  I two am going to wait until after the surgery and see the results.

I occasionally have the pee problem but never really thought much of it.  I have two children (one by C-section, one by VBAC) and have a history of really bad urinary tract infections for the longest time.  I had one episode of completely losing bowel control once!  It was the scariest thing I've ever gone through.  I went to the ER and they never figured out what it was but interestingly enough, it was right after my C-section.

I oftened wondered also how much weight influenced the issue of stress incontinence.   I notice mine is the worst right before my period and with talking to my urologist the uterus swells and causes pressure on my bladder.  I am certain even down 75# that I am noticing the problem less but it is not gone.  I get kidney stones so that was mainly why I went but I hear ya us women sometimes live with some embarrassing problems.  If mine were really bad I'd probably have surgery but mine isn't bad enough even to wear an undergarment.

I haven't had WLS yet. But, I have had problems with urinary incontinence since I was about 12 years old, when I sneezed, coughed, or laughed. I had surgery almost 3 years ago. It will be 3 years in March. They put in a sling. It was like a miracle, all of my leaking issues were gone. Now, in the past 6 mos or so, I've noticed some leaking again. My PCP says it might be due to weight gain since the bladder surgery. I am waiting until after my WLS to see how things are before I persue another surgery in this area. My gyn did the surgery. I definately recommend doing something about it. You have no idea how great it is to get this problem fixed. At my first post-op visit I hugged my dr b/c I was so excited to have the leaking gone. He said it was one of his favorite things to do for patients, give them back their continence. I was so embarassed, I never told my mom or anyone for so long. Then after my first baby it got so much worse, and even worse after my 2nd. Both were vaginal deliveries, fairly big babies. So, I know that didn't help my situation any.
