any migraine sufferers-post op? what meds u use?
I feel for you, my husband has suffered from migraine's for 12 years now, and finally just this last year after being to the neurologist they have him on a daily regime that works ( Thank God!) It is Topamax 50 mg every day and when he starts to get his migraine's ( really just headaches now) He has oxygen @ home that he will put on and that always gets rid of them. Good luck to you, Jenn

I had migraines infrequently preop...like every year and ahalf or so. Starting 5 weeks post op, they started occurring every week or so. I have the complicated migraines so I'd have to just go to bed. I did some research and found a link between vitamin D deficiency and migraines. I called my family doc and asked her to test me and sure enough, I had a pretty big vitamin D deficiency. I started on a supplement and haven't had a migraine since January 5. It might be worth getting some labwork done to see if yours if a deficiency too.

I had migrnaes now for 4 years now and well sometimes I still get them. It has been 9 months since I had the gastric bypass. I was on Immitrex pills and shots, Relpax you name it and I trieed it. I was seem by a neurolgoist serval times and well I was finally put on Zanaflex. Its a muscle relaxer but, it does work.
The best of luck to you with the migranes and weight loss.

I was given a prescription for Maxalt 10 mg. My primary care physician instructed me to take one with two Extra Strength Rapid Release Tylenol with the first sign of a severe headache. It works.....I have been able to avoid all but one migraine since having surgery.
Believe it or not, one of my migraine triggers is cigarette smoke, so I try my best to avoid areas of heavy smoking.

Thanks for the replies, I just remembered that the reason why I'm looking for other migraine medications because the Fiorinal (not with codeine) has aspirin in it and that's an NSAID right there and it's not good for RNY post ops. The Fiorinal has always worked for me, but now, dang, gotta look for alternatives :( I'll try again with the Maxalt with the extra strength Tylenol and see how I feel afterwards... it might just need some getting used to, like someone said earlier in this thread. Thanks again. :)
