i certainly wish you the best in this situation. Personally, I fail to see how my guy asking me the same question a hundred different ways could help him know me. It is funny now but I marked a lot of the questions N/A. he came and looked over my shoulder amd asked about them and I said well, i don't do drugs and I don't drink so how can that question apply to me? he told me to just put no down for my answer on those. I basically thought it was all a money ploy but I do realize, being a nurse, that there are people being released from hospitals every day that are simply not capable, mentally, of understanding how to care for themselves or following programs. I guess those kinds of people are the ones the surgeons want to weed out. Good luck to you. That is a really high price

Hi Judi, I had a choice. I could use the one affiliated with my surgeon's program for $190.00, or I could use the one contracted with my insurance company and pay $15.00. There was a chance I would get reimbursed the $190.00 or at least a portion but I did not have that to spend. I chose the ins. contracted one and got approved in two or three weeks. Hope this helps. Good luck and best wishes, Barb

This is Scott Boliver, I am logged on as my wife (we are both seeking WLS). I am a doctoral level licensed psychologist. The going rate in California (where rates are high) is $100-$135 per hour. I guess it depends on the program you are going through and the tests that are required, but I do not see how a bill like this can be justified. We usually don't bill for scoring, interpretation, and report writing. If we tried to charge insurance for this they would not allow it. I am also having a psych. eval. this week and they only charge $125. That is reasonable! I have not done these types of evaluations, but I can imagine that the only tests necessary would be a personality inventory and a depression inventory. Scott

Thanks again, everyone for your answers and help. I truly appreciate it. Now that I've heard what people from all over the country were charged, I know I was overcharged. I am going to inform my surgeon that this particular psychologist's charges seem to be way out of line and that such a notation be made on his list of suggested psychologists and psychiatrists. Either that, or take her name off the list entirely. At least this is what I am going to tell the administrator when he finally calls back! And as a warning to people getting a future psych eval, be sure and ask them what would be their average TOTAL charge for the psych eval for WLS patients. Ask before you even make an appointment. I thought I had asked the right questions but evidently I didn't. Thanks again, AMOS friends!! -Judi

Hi Judi, I'm so sorry that you're getting ripped off by your shrink. You should fight this and definitely report them. It's not right!! I had to pay $250 for an hour of just talking about myself. No tests, just sitting in a chair and talking. This included the report to my surgeon. Hope you have luck in getting the fee reduced! You shouldn't have to pay that outrageous amount. Now, I ask ya who's crazy in this picture?!?!?!? Good luck! Diane

Judi: My psych eval lasted 1 1/2 hours. Included in this time was also a psych written test of 150 questions. My total bill was $250 and my insurance paid all but $50. You've been scammed!!!!!
