Informed Consent do you really understand the risks?

on the WLS regrets forum somebody who is clearly very depressed posted and this yahoo said

"there is a 58% increased risk of suicide with this surgery" !!!
 

the troll is "researching" ways to talk a gf out of the surgery. that's what all this is about.

My BMI was in the mid 80s and I was in the highest percentile of a possibility of not surviving WLS.  I literally begged my surgeon for the surgery.  I was willing to sign anything to get the surgery.  My own doctor and my psychiatrist told me that having WLS was the best thing for me to do.  I'm lucky the surgeon agreed.  Without the WLS, I had a life expectancy of about 1 1/ 2 to 2 years but I''ve now lived 8 /2 years past the WLS.  I know I could have died during surgery but it was worth the chance.

One more thing, I don't know how many people would agree with me on this, but I solicited a lot of prayers for the success of my operation.  I found out after the WLS that I had been on prayer lines accross the country.  I'm normally a very anxious person and although I try to do well, I know that I'm a sinner.  I made my peace as well as I could with my God prior to the surgery.  My surgeon thought that was nonsense but I didn't care what he thought since I was the one going under the knife.  I'm glad he was successful but I think God had His had in it also.

Hey nay-sayer... why don't you go somewhere else and sell your anti-WLS propaganda.  What's the matter, are you fat and didn't qualify?  Too chicken to help yourself?

What's your major malfunction?

Newbies!!! Do your research learn about the risks and benefits and make an informed decision. Do not let crap like this scare you away...

We are all informed about the risks.  My doctor did not sugar coat anything. He also made me understand that I needed to get the weight off.  Life is full of risks, people have died from all kinds of surgery.  My suggestion is to go to a center of excellence, research your doctor.  Also remember that some people that have the surgery are high risk , I would do it again in a minute.  There are alway people that want to scare you I remember when I was pregant, I had people tell me horror stories.  You can find anything negative about anything.
