alcohol

That would be a great way to get an ulcer in that little tiny stomach of yours.  Is alcohol really that important to you?  If so, I think you'd best seek some sort of counseling.

I know you got the right answer from all these wonderful people, but just letting you know your insides are not even HEALED until 6 weeks out.  Just a thought... Also starting drinking now is a REALLYYY good way to transfer your addiction to alcohol.

Rapid weight loss is hard on your liver.  Alcohol is hard on your liver.  Some people come here asking for permission to do harmful  things.   They should just do them if they must, they don't need our approval.  Loris

You already know the "right" answer.  After all that you've been through over the past couple of weeks, why would you even want to risk it???

i just want to thank everyone who took the time to answer. i also want to say that i dont think there was any reason to get nasty about this. this surgery was a HUGE decision for me. but if i cant come to this place and ask questions (even if it might be considered a stupid one to some,) without being ridiculed then where the hell else is there to go? this is a tough period and the last thing i need is peoples know-it-all, mean comments. so if thats the kind of answer you feel like leaving, please don't bother.

I agree, I've been to support groups and have asked the same question regarding alchol and it seems everyone looks at you like your crazy.  I had my surgery on 3/31/09 and I plan on trying a splash of vodka with my crystal light by July, so I figure you will know when and what to try when you are ready.  It seems some people are so Anti drinking its crazy.  Good luck and please post when you do try it and let us know how you make out..

Kris,
Maybe the reason look at you like you're crazy when asking about alcohol at this stage of your journey is because they can't believe you're actually even thinking about it.  This is something preops should ask about before even going under the knife.  The answer they're going to get is the same as in this thread - NO, NO, NO!!!  And if the alcohol is going to be that tempting this early out then wls should not have even been an option.

Too many times I read on this board about questions concerning alcohol, smoking, greasy/fatty foods, etc.... from newbies as early out as the OP.  I know she asked to be kind, but it just yanks my (and others)chain to hear that somebody so early out REALLY wants a drink while watching some TV.  This surgery is a lifetime commitment, which means there are sacrafices that need to be made the rest of your life.  Now don't get me wrong, yes, alcohol can be brought back into your life.  Just like smoking (if you so choose) and greasy/fatty foods (never recommended, but on occasion it won't kill you).  But not even close to 2 1/2 weeks out.  I mean that's just common sense.  No matter how nice someone may ask for rainbows to blown up their rearend, if you are going to ask questions about stuff like this, then you're going to get the cold, hard truth.  And sometimes that means being a little harsh.  In fact, the truth tends to come off as being blunt most of the times.

"No matter how hard life may get, no matter how many curveballs you are thrown, keep in mind, if you want to succeed - QUITTING IS NOT AN OPTION"!!!

just a simple question, and a simple response 2.5 weeks out, is far to soon, wait until your pouchy is at least healed! I am no doctor here! However HONESTLY i had my first drink at a lil over a month!

Im sorry that you have asked a question and people are being mean about it!!!!
As for my opinion, I would NOT recommend having a drink this early on.  You body isn't healed and putting alcohol into your pouch that isn't healed can have serious complications.  You will eventually be able to have a drink again but please wait until you are at least healed.
Good luck to you
