Hi everyone:

I have my psych eval next week.  Can anyone give me any ideas on what to expect, what type of questions, etc.

Thank you in advance.

Mine just asked simple questions. I had to talk about my childhood. Was I a victim of sexual abuse. He asked how long I've been overweight. Am I an emotional eater? Do I drink soda and how much? Could I give up the soda? Do I exercise. I don't remember all the questions, but that should give u an idea of what they'll ask.  You'll do great, I passed, LOL. Hope this helps. ~Jackie

Well, judging by some stuff you read that some people have posted on OH (I don't mean YOU!) ANYONE can pass a psych eval.

But seriously, in my case, the questions were about what my issues with food are (how I got obese in the first place) and whether I had realistic expectations about what the surgery could and could not do. And there was some discussion about eating disorders, although other than overeating, they were never as issue with me.

well i learned to lie lol. do not say ur an emotional eater, that ur depressed or that no one supports you. know ur stuff also, like what the exact surgery entails. if i new this my first time going i wouldnt be on appointment number 3! act confident an know everything and you may only have to do one appointment. just my opinion on what i went through. get therapy after lol..if needed.

Yep lying works  as my wife found out she had to go to 4 appointments after she was honest with the physc , held here back for three months of course I watched her go through this and I lyed my butt off when it came my time  3 months later they gave me sheet to fill out with quistions have you ever thought of sucide, do you eat when you get upset, how do you deal with stress so on and so on
well I think everbody has thought of sucide at least once and as far as eating because upset well i just plained liked eating so never saw diff there and stress I am engineer going on twenty year dealt with 2 million dollar tools I have designed stress when wasnt i stressed so I quickly figure out the good awnsers on the multiple choice and filled out the circles according to what they wanted it was pretty visible what they wanted so I gave it to them.,

I was also given a depression assessment right off the bat.  My psychologist wanted to know what my understanding was of the surgery, how it was going to affect me psychologically, physically, etc.  My eval was not what I expected.  I had to talk A LOT about my family growing up, any issues involved, traumatic experiences, etc.  I was honest and walked out of there feeling like I needed a LOOONG nap.. just totally emotionally drained after spilling all that.  If you do not have any issues you have nothing to worry about, if you do have issues -just lie- and you'll have nothing to worry about.  Deny everything!

Every psych evaluation is different.  Mine consisted of an interview, but then I had to take a 600 question test - took 2 hours.  He warned me about it when I set the interview.  It apparently gives him insight into my personality and is difficult to manipulate.

Don't worry - you are going to be fine.  Just relax and let it happen.
