I went to my WLS support group today and someone there said, if you swim for exercise it will tighten your skin as you loose. I did not have the opportunity to ask more about it. Does any one know anything more about this?

everything I have heard suggests that if you build muscle it will help tighten things up (for me, my arms have gotten filled out, and definitely won't need any intervention), but only so far -- if you lose a lot of extra weight in one area, particularly if you are over 40, it may have stretched too far to bounce back, no matter what type of exercise you do.  Swimming is good for toning and cardio, so by all means, give it a try! --Sarah

Any exercise will hep but it all depends on how much skin you have.

Nothing tightens skin, sad to say. Exercise helps build muscle which , in turn, fills out the skin a little more so it looks a little less loose. Genetics are the biggest factor in how well skin "bounces" back, and age is also a factor to a certain extent. The more years you were obese and the skin was stretched out, the less likely it is to tighten up. Over time, after the weight is off, you will see some slight improvement, but again, that depends on the individual. If you carried a lot of fat in one area like on the belly and had a large pannus(belly flap), it won't go away. If your fat was distributed quite evenly over your body, you will have less noticeable loose skin if your genetics are in your favor.

It will for about a minute or two.  It isn't that it tightens it, all the oils are washed away and makes it feel that way.

There really isn't a lot you can do to prevent it... it really all depends on how forgiving your body is.  Moisturization from the time you decide to have surgery is somewhat of a help.  It helps with the elasticity of your skin.

Wish I had more help for you.

Old guy here.  Its the how long you were obese and the genetics.  Muscle will fill some but turkey necks, tummy flaps and bat wings need as Clint Eastwood said Adjustments.

Or maybe the Dolly Parton approach?

She says that whatever she has that is sagging or bagging gets nipped, tucked or sucked.  She is so funny.

I guess if swimming tightened loose skin, people would be building swimming pools in their yards instead of getting plastic surgery.
