Well, I am 15 days pre-op and things are becoming really real!!!!  Question being.....exactly 1 month from surgery, I have a business trip planned.  Chicago to Washington DC....a pretty short flight.  I will be gone for 4 days.  Luckily my hubby will be joining me on this one.  I am planning for protein shakes and soft foods.  Is this too soon to try to travel?  I also have a Disney vacation planned in September!  I am sooo looking forward to that trip.  Who knew the free dining plan really would NOT be a deal maker for that vacation.  But the one thing I am exctied about with Disney is their willingness to accomodate all diners regardless of their food restrictions.  Thoughts???  I would love to hear what you are thinking!
On the road to a whole new me and a  shopping spree!!!

I wouldn't think you'd have much of a problem.  Plan on yogurt, shakes, cottage cheese - you ought to do fine.  I can't think of anything that would prohibit you flying.

I traveled up to Canada about 5 weeks after surgery.  I didn't have many problems except you have to remember to drink your fluids.  I slacked off of that during the 12 hour drive and paid for it with severe constipation problems.  Not fun.  Also, I found the 1st time I went out for breakfast, I tried to keep up with people with me.  I tried to eat my breakfast (ham and eggs) as quickly as they ate their breakfast.  I paid for that having to stop and get sick.  Just remember to take your time eating, chew well and keep hydrated.  You should be fine.  Have a great trip.

Expect to be pretty tired for the business trip.  Thankfully, hubby can pick up the slack.  Expect to have a wonderful time at Disney!

Thanks for the encouragement and words of wisdom!  The business trip is a Subway Convention....so if I get tired and need to take a nap...that will be all good.....I will just have to make sure I am really tired during a boring class  ;-)  As for the eating too fast tip...thanks for the reminder.  Fortunately, one of the girls that will be at the convention had RNY 4 years ago...so I am hoping that the lenghty eating will be understood.  Actually, I am going with a great bunch of people who are very supportive so I expect this will be a good  first trip for post op.

I will have to remember to hydrate on the plane!  That will be the biggie for me.  I tend to fear the lavatory....did you ever hear the story about the woman that actually got stuck to the toliet because she was large and flushed while sitting on it?  She had to get unstuck after the plane landed....took lots of firemen and such.....I could so see that being me!!!  But  that is my fear of ariplane lavatories and why I would rather die of thirst than embarassment.  I guess I am going to have to work on that one!!

I travelled to Europe, on business, 6 weeks post-op despite still having trouble with even the most mundane foods. The airline was the most challenging part since there was quite literally, nothing I could tolerate that was available for purchase at the airport. But th ey put me in touch with their food service provider and they were able to accommodate me (for a price, of course!).  In fact, $10 for some sharp cheese and a few strawberries. Oh well.

But with a lot of advance planning, including working with the hotel where I was staying so I'd have a place to refrigerate things, since fridges and MW in rooms are not so common in much of Europe.  The hotel was more than accommodating, and the chef made certain I got exactly what I needed, when I needed it without ever asking why I needed it.

And you're right, Disney is excellent on that account.  Have fun on both trips.

Thank goodness for me both flights are short!  I am thinking some yogurt  will be perfect if need be....and of course water and some protein powder just in case. Thanks for the reminder about the mini fridge.  I will call and make sure both hotels know that I will need one!

I am sitting here just thinking of all the doggie bags that are going to be in the Disney one!!!  With the dining plan, daily you get one counter service meal which consists of an entree, side, dessert and drink, one sit down meal with the same thing and a snack!!!!  On the up side of that, lots of the desserts and snacks are individually wrapped and can be given to the cranky kids you meet in line....with their parents permission of course!!!!  Last year we got the free dining plan and I had a hard time eating all that food then....and I LOVE to eat....I can hardly wait to see what happens this year!!!
