Need protein shake recipes for vanilla isopure powder and is it better 2 drink at once or spread...
I used the choc., and other flavors of Isopure for the first several months after my RNY. However, I do also make my own smoothies at home. I also found an inexpensive whey isolate protein that has no flavor. Sometimes the vanilla flavor may still be noticeable in the final shake, even if you mix in cocoa, etc. I also tried a new whey isolate protein called Wheyaway, made the co. that makes the Epic Ultra liquid vitamins I take daily. I got a smoothie maker at QVC (seen at http://www.qvc.com/qic/qvcapp.aspx/view.2/app.detail/params. item.K21116.desc.Chris-Freytag-Personal-Fitness-Blender ) that mixes very well. 350 watt motor, about a 24 oz mixer / travelling mug. I use about 20 blueberries, 4-5 medium strawberries, water, and protein powder, and mix a smoothie that tastes great. I've used a Magic Bullet for the past couple of years, but really like this new smoothie maker I got from QVC. I normally only add enough protein powder for about 20 gr of protein. I think it's unwise to mix up large quantities of protein shakes at one time. They only take a minute or two to make, and mixed protein shakes that sit around for hours may lose some of their protein potency. I've always mixed my protein shakes, Isopure or others, with water. I noted that when mixed with milk in a blender, the protein shakes became extra foamy. You could use your Isopure Vanilla with any fresh fruit (non citrus) this time of year. Also, you can find frozen berries at the grocery store out of season. You can also cut a banana into 6-8 segments and freeze them. Adding these frozen segments acts like a flavored ice cube AND fiber in future shakes. Good luck. DAVE

Protein coffee, tea or chai.
Take 8 oz skim milk.....nuke in microwave until warm. Stir in one scoop of isopure vanilla. Toss in some splenda and then add really strong coffee.
You can do this with chai tea as well, and add some splenda.
I make tea/coffee by the quart, and leave it in the fridge until ready to use. Nuke till very warm.
Take care not to let it get too hot. If it gets over 130 degrees F, the protein denatures. Not harmful, just gross.

Most protein powder is made to be mixed with water, not milk.
There are a million ways to doctor these up so you like them -- here are some things I add to mine:
- instant coffee or espresso
- PB2 (powdered peanut butter)
- sugar-free pudding powder (banana pudding + chocolate protein = yum)
- sugar-free syrups (Starbucks Hazelnut or Cinnamon Dolce are great, You can find others like Torani and Davinci all over - even Wal-Mart sells some of the sugar-free flavors)
- a couple frozen blueberries or a tbsp of sugar-free jam
- If your protein powder is fruity, add crystal light or the new powerade zero
- skp the shake and mix your protein into greek yogurt and flavor the same way

Hi Lisa,
I start every day with a protein drink, either a "latte" or a smoothie.
Latte: In double mug (e.g., traveler) mix 1 scoop of protein powder and approx 1/4 cup milk. Stir until well mixed. Add boiling water and stir. Have your kettle cool a tiny bit off of full boil. Add 2 heaping tsp of instant coffee. I use flavored coffee. In addition, I will use chocolate flavored powder, or mint/chocolate for variety. (I add a heaping tsp of Benefibre to keep my pipes regular)
Smoothy: I use a variety of frozen fruits as the basis for the smoothly. Put approximately 1/2 to 1 cup of frozen fruit in a blender. Add 1 cup of milk and blend until smooth. You can add either ice or more milk and blend to make it the consistency you like. Add 1 tsp of Splenda if you like it sweeter. Add 1 scoop of protein powder. Blend and drink. Mix up any combination of fruits you like. My favorite is strawberry (with peanut butter sometimes). I also like mango and orange juice. Raspberries are tasty if you don't mind picking seeds out of your teeth for the rest of the day. Once again, add some Benefibre.
Drink as much as you can in 1 setting. My latte usually takes me an hour - long enough to read the paper and do the puzzle in the morning. My smoothy doesn't take so long. It's more like dessert.
You're just starting out. My advise would be to put about 1/2 cup into a separate mug, and drink that. Keep the rest in the fridge. When you are finished your 1/2 cup, go back and add another 1/2 cup. It won't feel so over whelming.
