Anyone get sick on protein bars

So I have finished my six month diet and was very faithful to protein bars and drinks and still am while I await approval.  The last two days as I ate the same protein bar I have been eating for the last two months I get really nausious.  It gets so bad it makes it hard to eat the rest of the day.  I just finished dinner (just had a salad with grilled chicken) and am so sick I feel like I am going to let it back up.  I haven't even had surgery yet but the thought of those protein bars (which I really did get used to and like) are making me sick.  I would expect taste buds to change post surgery.  Anybody else go through this where the protein supplements started making you ill?

Protein bars do not set well with my pouch at all. Mine is very sensitive to textures and I cannot eat anything creamy without feeling sick. No mayo or anything like that. Yogurt is about the only thing creamy I can eat without feeling sick. I can take two bites of a protein bar and feel sick.

Your body is probably trying to tell you something.  Protein bars aren't really that great of a choice.  They are like glorified candy bars.  I know you are pre-surgery, but my doc said to steer clear of them.

Protein bars vary widely. Many have over 20g of sugar which we should avoid. Low sugard bars have sugar alcohol instead which doesn't count as sugar for our diets. The sugar alcohol causes some folks trouble with gas or the runs. You may be sensitive to this, most no sugar products have some sugar alcohols, even where you might not expect (Benefiber chewables, for instance).

Try laying off the protein bars for now. You're going to need protein shakes for months after your surgey anyway - start trying to find a brand you can tolerate now. I liked Designer Whey because it mixed well with Skim Plus milk, was not sickeningly sweet or foamy like so many others.

Good luck.

The road to success is always under construction.

I have found that I get sick on the bars that have over 16 sugars/alcohols. Just stick to the lower sugar bars.
