I am getting married on October and will be 9 months out by then. My question is this...what should I do about he cake situation and the toast? I would like to be traditional in that I want to be able to feed each other some cake, I don't want to get sick though. Also, I will not be far enough out to drink alcohol and champaign has bubbles in it anyway. What have you all done in situations like this? I appreciate any suggestions you all may have. One person suggested green tea instead of teh champaign, I kind of like that idea. I have not eated ANY sugar since sergury, and I am scared to be sick from cake on my wedding day!

Do you think sugar free cakes can make me sick too?

They might make you sick.  You may want to see if you can get a sample before you decide.  Try it in the comfort and safety of your home.  You'll only be eating a teeny bit.

You can make the small top layer of the cake be SF and that can be what you taste (smash in each other's faces) at the wedding.  Then you just take that and have it wrapped to save for your 1 yr anniversary (if you're into that tradition, too).

I was 6 months out when my daughter got married in January of this year.  I didn't have any of the wedding cake, punch (because it had regular ginger ale in it as well as the carbination), or any of the dessert tables.  We also had another reception in Wisconsin (she got married in NH where she now lives) where we had another cake.  You just made me think of this--when we went for the tasting, my daughter, husband and her best friends tasted it.  They were gracious enough to give me a hard roll and chili because I hadn't had breakfast yet.

You can fake eating the piece if you are afraid you would dump. Or just try eating a little bit in the privacy of your home--that way you'll have an idea.

Unfortunately, the only way you'll know is to try it.  Another suggestion--is there a way they could put something like a SF whipped topping with fruit on top on it to decrease some of the sugar content?  Also, there are sugar free cakes out there as far as mixes that maybe you could ask about too.

I always try new things at home in case I have an issue with it, so you might get a sample of it and take it home to try.

My husband and I had a sugar free cake made that was very delicious.  The person that made the cake worked with us to determine alternate ingredients that could be used to alleviate the sugar found in most cakes.  We even made the groom's cake sugar free.  I think e only made the tier of the bride's cake that we were going to eat sugar free.

I think a forkful of cake will not do anything bad to you. Ditto a sip of champagne. You will be so busy being congratulated and hugged and kissed that you can easily "lose" your plate and your glass in the commotion. Not a problem.

Many docs (mine included) say 6 months for the "no alcohol" rule, so I'm pretty sure a few sips would be fine.  And definitely try a little cake at home first, similar to what the wedding cake will be, to see if there is any problem.  I agree with the other responce, a forkful or two should be fine.  Congratulations and enjoy the big day!

Thank you to all of you. I think I will try a bite of cake and see what happens, and or make my piece be somthing sugar free. I am not all that interested in sweets anymore so I guess I don't need a whole cake to be sugar free. One bite sounds good enough for me! Thanks to all of you again! =)
