Why America Needs Universal Healthcare

My 5 day hospital stay just a year and a half ago was $48,000.

WTF??? Really? My 33 days in the hospital over here cost me roughly $1000.00 and that was because certain tests were not covered because I am not Kuwaiti and I am not married to one. I am covered under the national health care over here. I am also covered under private insurance through my company. I filed for reimbursement of the $1000.00 I spent at the public hospital and got 80% back.

I just realized that my socialized/nationalized/universal plan (whatever you want to call it) is actually better than the private ins one you are lucky to have in the US! I pay less in co-pays AND I have no limit on mental health visits at all.

But it's that cost if YOU pay for it. When the insurance pays it, it's $200.  For example, my $30000 VSG cost my insurance company $3K after "negotiating"!

14 pounds lost before surgery. My first ticker is when I hit onderland: this was my goal when I started on this journey.  I want to focus on that right now...once I get there I can reevaluate.

My second ticker is my dream goal. Even if I only visit there for a short time, it would be nice to see that number just once.  I am pretty sure I'll need plastics to hit this goal.

I would love to see Universal Healthcare. My only problem with it is having the Government run it. I don't think there is an easy solution. I think Unoversal healthcare would solve a lot of the fraud in the system also.

Thanks LeAnn'

Its not actually govt RUN, its govt FUNDED. Govt would replace insurance companies. They simply become the one who processes the bill,s which is all the insurance companies actually do.

Govt already regulates what medications are available to the medical community to prescribe dont they? They already regulate you cant administer treatments that havent been tested and approved of dont they? They already decide whats an over the counter drug and whats prescription dont they? They already determine what level of education you need to BE in the medical field and what duties you are can and cant perform based on their criteria right? (the states issue licences and nurses are limited and cant prescribe meds like a doctor can).

Medicare and Medicaid are government funded and assist in the payent of monies--through various means--to doctors in private practice or who work for medical groups.  At the Vetern Administration, the doctors and staff are government employees, as are the civilian doctors in, for example, the Army Medical Command or the Indian Health Service and such.  I suppose Federal Prisons would be in there, too.

First and foremost - I am a socialist and very proud of that fact. Capitalism is horrid and a failure as far as I am concerned. (Yes - I know many feel differently - this is simply my opinion.)
I believe that all people of the US are entitled to certain things - a safe place to live, healthy food to eat, a decent education, and decent health care. I do not think that your economic status, your educational status, your residency status, your brain amount status, etc. should dictate if you get those things - that I believe are part of what our Founding Fathers expected ALL citizens to get.
My tax dollars are currently being spent on things I do NOT approve of - a false based war - created by GW, etc.etc.
The plan being proposed is not going to eliminate ALL other forms of health coverage - it is simply going to ensure that all people can and will receive affordable, decent health care.
If you think you are not paying for health care for those who do not have it right now - your head is up your ass - one of the reasons premiums and health care costs increase sharply each year is to cover the costs of those who are uninsured.
If you think that the government can not run a decent health care plan - you do not need to sign up for it and be sure once you are retirement age that you REFUSE to accept social security and medicare. But, before then - also be sure that you refuse the services of law enforcement, teachers, etc.

This is NOT the greatest country in the world and that in and of itself makes me sad.
