Why America Needs Universal Healthcare
This is one of those topics that just drive me crazy, because I am with you -- I don't understand how this country can be so against health care.
I hear all the excuses...
1) my taxes will go up -- yeah. But you won't be paying the premiums you do know, so your take home will be close to the same, if not more.
2) I may have to wait for coverage...really? You aren't now? You have to wait forever NOW to see a specialist. I swear early detection is necessary because it's going to take months to get appointments to see the specialist, who wants tests done that you have to wait for appointments, to go back and see the specialist.....so we wait now.
3) People will start going to the dr for every sniffle and sneeze because they aren't paying for it. People do that now -- they just go to the ER.
The thing that gets me most, is it's all fine and good if you are married. If one of you gets sick someone else can carry the insurance. But if you are a single, and you get sick -- and then can't work -- you lose your job. Which means you lose your health insurance. Now, you are paying incredibly high prices for cobra, because no insurance company is going to pick you up or you are paying out of pocket. You soon lose your home or can't pay your rent. Now what?
Are there people that play the system? Sure. Then get rid of unemployment, food stamps, earned income credit....let me tell you people play those games as well. But, I think health care just as important if not more than any of those. Especially EIC -- personally EIC should be for people that are working two or more jobs, working more than 40 hours to try and keep a roof over their head, and food on the table rather than a system that tells people how little to work.
But no one should see their lives destroyed, go homeless, or die because they don't have health care.

14 pounds lost before surgery. My first ticker is when I hit onderland: this was my goal when I started on this journey. I want to focus on that right now...once I get there I can reevaluate.
My second ticker is my dream goal. Even if I only visit there for a short time, it would be nice to see that number just once. I am pretty sure I'll need plastics to hit this goal.
