Why America Needs Universal Healthcare

Sorry, I call bull**** on this one.

First off, there is no Canadian medicare, each province regulates their own system that is patrially funded by the federal gov't, yes, all of us pay taxes towards this. But each province has it's own rules, standards etc....

As for there being restrictions as to who can or cannot receive care etc...BS! Nor what type of care. Thank you, been living here my entire life, not once have I been turned away by an ER, clinic or doctor. No, the system certainly isn't perfect, we can learn a lot from England and Italy actually, but it's a hell of a lot better than I've seen in the US for those who can't afford care out of pocket. (sure, the US has great care for those with the $$$) So what? That doesn't help the uninsured or broke folks, does it?

And once again, each province has it's own problems with the medicare system. So let's not lump it all into a Canadian thing....Quebec has one set of problems, Ontario another and so on.

What a bunch of crap. Getting coverage for health care is not a problem in Canada if you are talking about the basic services that people need to maintain their health. If you want to spout such garbage, how about getting some data, rather than this friend of a friend nonsense.

Wrong.   I can personally put you in touch with 2 Canadians (one now a U.S. citizen, the other still a Canadian citizen) and one former British citizen who will tell you that getting coverage often IS a problem and that the waiting times and restrictions on who can and cannot receive what type of care are VERY real.  They are all three much happier with healthcare in teh U.S.

Canadians have no trouble getting coverage it is a right to be covered in each province.   We get to pick what doctor we wish to have without an insurance company telling us who to see.  We also do not have to pay any insurance fees whatsoever.  Is our system perfect?  Nope but I don't have to pay any premiums and I am covered whether I am employed or not and don't have to worry about exhorbirant medical bills if I need major surgery, etc.    I think it's ridiculous that all Americans are not covered totally by a country as rich as the U.S.

What sort of restrictions? It was in my local paper this week that a 93 year old man has just had a heart bypass. So not by age!

Waiting? Well my DH got an appt with his doc the day after he phoned; saw a consultant and stayed overnight in a sleep clinic 2 weeks later, saw the consulant the follwoing morning. Diagnosed with severe sleep apnoea, given a CPAP machine and shown how to use it by specialist nurse. How could that have been faster if he had paid?

Elderly aunt just waited all of 6 weeks for cataract op!

I can personally put you in touch with more than two canadians who LOVE their healthcare and can not understand why Americans have to worry about losing their homes or jobs due to health issues.

14 pounds lost before surgery. My first ticker is when I hit onderland: this was my goal when I started on this journey.  I want to focus on that right now...once I get there I can reevaluate.

My second ticker is my dream goal. Even if I only visit there for a short time, it would be nice to see that number just once.  I am pretty sure I'll need plastics to hit this goal.

It took him longer to pick out a puppy, then pass this on.....?????
