Does dumping start right away?

I know I was bad.  And I am not really trying to test the waters.   I just had a pity moment with the cookie dough.  I fell back into an old habit.... but I recognized it.   And I am back on track. I was just wondering.  And as for the sweet tea.   I asked for a half and half of sweet and unsweet.... but they gave me a sweet tea.   I was so thirsty I just drank it.  I didnt even think about it until later.

I cant stand sugar free things..... and was really hoping that the dumping would help whoop my butt into line by not being able to tolerate sugars.   You know.... kind of act as a reminder.

Anyway.  As for the food stages.   I was on puree until today.   According to my post op.... She told me puree one week from post op then soft foods.  I had my post op last wednesday.... so...soft foods here I am.   Granted I did this last night with the cookie dough.

I am back on track and am not being bad today.  Now that I am on soft foods...I think I will be a little more.... satisfied because now there is more variety.   I found the liquids to bland... and the puree just gross.  I am surpassing my protien requirements for the day.   I am also doing great with the vitamins.

Dumping has many causes and contributions, and it can rear its very ugly head the moment after surgery or months (even years) later. often, lactose (a sugar in milk) and table sugar, honey, sugar in high sugar fruits, etc. can cause dumping, but probably in less than 50% of RNY patients. Even over eating or high fat content foods can cause it. However, it can be pretty surprising to someone who thought they'd escaped it. They often think it's something else entirely!

Please believe me, this is your very best opportunity to make significant changes in your habits to enhance your weight loss and improve your health. I hate to lecture, but truly, trying even a bite or two of foods you don't need can have devastating effects on your weight loss. It's entirely too easy to say '' just one more bite" and an hour later, just one more.

In one of my health magazines recently they followed around a young mom to help her identify why her diet attempts were failing. They found that she ate around 800 calories a day that she never accounted for by tasting this and that, accepting food lovingly shoved in her mouth by her toddler, etc. And she really was surprised at how much more she was eating that she realized.

It's much better to assume you are sugar intolerant and will dump and not test the waters.

Wishing you well!

Ann

didnt mean to beat you to death.  It just is not pleasent.  I know that it can happen even with a food I thought I tolerated.  I was being sarcastic, sorry about that.  No hard feelings

Dont apologize.   I deserve everthing that was said.   No hard feelings at all to anyone.   I know I was sabatoging myself and I needed to be called on the carpet for it.    I promise.... I will be better in the future.  Like I said... with more variety starting this week... I will be more satisfied.  I dont want to fall back into old habits.  :)

I will accept my beatings as they are well deserved and the reason I came here for support.   :)   Closet eating has always been a problem for me.... and I am trying to stay accountable.

I admire your honesty. I think it is a good thing that you are being honest about unhealthy eating and being accountable for it.
Good luck on sticking to your healthy foods.

It is not the magnitude of our actions but the amount of love that is put into them that matters.

Tazz you have got to gain control over what you put in your mouth. Your pouch is still healing, the food choices that you are making are wrong. Asking for half sweet tea and half unsweet is wrong. First of all you shouldn't be consuming anything with sweet in the title. In addition, the majority of your liquids should be water.

It is clear that you are testing your pouch. This is not a good thing. Just like last week you were blending up a macaroni and cheese milk shake. Seems to me that you are resorting back to your old habits. Stop it now! You have just embarked on this journey and you will are seemingly self sabatoging yourself. Pull yourself together, get out your guidelines and GET BACK ON TRACK!!!

Besides the sugar in sweet tea that is bad for you, it is also caffeinated. You should stay clear of both. Im 6 weeks out, and I had about 1/4 cup of cookie dough ice cream (i really wanted fattening ice cream for a treat, instead of my healthy choice stuff) and within about 15 minutes, I was so sick. Horrible pains, cramping, sweaty, and horrible horrible diarrhea. I will never go that route again. That was my first dumping episode, but I have not tried anything else that would cause dumping. Im staying pretty focused on my diet..
