"But my surgeon said to take a couple of Flintstones vitamins and I'll be okay!"

I agree...get copies of your labs!

I had my thryoid checked about 3 years ago, doctors said it was fine.  Only to find out 18 months later and 70lbs heavier and other complications!!!  That the doctor missed the results!!

I always ask for the actual results now!  I work in the medical field and usually understand them, but if I'm in doubt...I ask!

I agree with above.  There are recommendations made for  reason...such as don't take children's vitamins, be sure to get the RIGHT kind of protein, exercise, eat right, don't have carbonated beverages..and you will succeed.

I am slowly losing patience for those who can't follow the rules, then complain when something goes wrong. I do have sympathy for those who follow the rules, and then end up with issues.

If you are concerned, get a second opinion!

So, as you're learning more about post-op requirements, are you now taking more than your doctor first prescribed?

And that's ALL?

And it seems to be sufficient for an adult with half a stomach, and a 1/3 of their intestines, given that is the normal dose for a 13 year old who has a normal sized stomach, and full intestines for absorbing full nutrients?

And this doesn't seem problematic given that there is no calcium?  no iron?

Why do we keep ?  It must be the hope, that, out there somewhere, some one is actually listening.

I don't normally post... but I am listening and absorbing ALL of what you guys are saying right NOW!

I am seven months post op.  I have been taking Bariatic Fusion for the past 7 1/2 months.  I am ready to go on swallow pills...

I bought Citracal Petites and have been taking 4 a day.  I bought Centrum Ultra Women's and have been taking 2 a day.  They have Iron in them (18mg) so I have been taking them opposite the calcium and wondering if that is enough iron and knowing that it most likely is not.

That said, I bought a bottle that says Iron (65mg) but it also says Ferrous Sulfate.  and then I started reading on here about what I need iron wise and read "DO NOT TAKE FERROUS SULFATE" somewhere and called my Surgeon's office.  They have not yet returned my call, and I will call again tomorrow... I have not taken additional iron yesterday or today...

Anyone have any thoughts?  I will take them and promise to read them and try not to make any one bang their heads against the wall... (No promises...)

Ferrous carbonyl is the preferred formula.  Thanks for paying attention.  It's folks like you who make me keep at it.

Don't listen look at Andrea post...she did the two flintstones and the viactiv for calcium her surgeon told her to and guess what she got terrible osteomaligia ...very painful as your bones fall apart...Be proactive...My MD told me that too but she set me straight.  I take 2 Centrums a day 3 Calciums to get me 2000mg Vit D B6-B12 sublinguially...also biotin to prevent hair loss.  PLEASE I'm a nurse and my doctor said there would probably be some definciency but I believe in being proactive and fighting against those ...you better look into what you need.  Also if menustrating you need iron.  Please prevent things from happening don't be lax about it.  IT"S YOU not the doctor.  He doesn't know good nutrition it's that's all he told you to do BUT look into it...IF you don't you will regret it because preventing deficiency's is easier than trying to catch up!  HUGS Patty
