When do I buy new clothes???

I am 8 months post-op and pretty much all of my work skirts are pinned with safety pins...my "stratchy" pants are also pinend...BUT..I have an angel who is a bit ahead of me on the weight loss agenda and has been giving me her clothes that are now to big for her.  I in turn pass those clothes of mine and the ones I don't want from her onto someone else.

you can always shop a 2nd hand store, or try if you have one to check with your local support group...if they have regular meetings put the feeler out there for the sizes you are looking for and offer in return the clothes that are now too big for you.

I am not buying any clothes at the moment...from what I have heard may individuals end up wearing their new smaller clothes and then in a couple of months they have to replace those also

take it slow and investigate options.

I know there are also (free) boards in teh USA...not sure what they are called but check those out also

Hello.  When I started to lose weight, I waited until my clothes were really baggy before I bought new stuff.  I don't like spending a lot of money on clothes when I am "growing" out of them so fast.  So, I have learned to be thrifty and shop at the used stores.  I wash the clothes a couple times before I wear them and have been able to find beautiful stuff.  I found that I wasn't in them long enough to spend a lot of money on them.  I pass them on to friends and give some back to the thrift store when I am done.  Once I get to my desired weight, I will look at going out and buying a brand new wardrobe....will still shop off sale and clearance racks as I love getting good "deals."  When I am out shopping, I look for the "deals."  Right now I am wearing a 12, so when I'm out, if I see a 10 that is on sale (thrift stores have sales too where items are half price), I will buy it if I like it and save it.  It won't be long before I'm into it.  Check out the clothing giveaway on this site.

I hope this helps.

Tammy :-)

BTW - I have found that you can get more "mileage" out of stretch pants or jeans.  I wore my stretch 22's for the longest time.  They fit when I was bigger and smaller too.

I also hit the clearance racks and recently started buying on eBay.  EBay has really worked out well, as you can get a few sizes in one group of clothes for a great price.  I got size 12-14 in one delivery and it should do me for a while.  I don't feel so guilty shopping that way.  It seems in the last month, my tummy area is really shrinking, and the pants are really starting to fall off (size 16) so the 2 size option worked for me.

Enjoy your journey!!

I started buying as soon as I was able. I couldn't stand to look at my big, faded, stained, stretched-out pre-op clothes, so I pitched them as soon as they became the tiniest bit loose. I almost wish I'd saved something, just for comparison's sake. I may have been a little over-zealous in my purging.

I love walmart, target, Fashion Bug and SteinMart. I only bought cheap stuff; quality doesn't matter when you're not going for long-term use.

The only times I bought in sizes ahead was if I found something I comletely loved and they didn't have it in the bigger size, or if the bigger size was a little too big, and the smaller a little too snug. I knew it wouldn't be snug for long! I have a jacket that I remember being unable to close. Its headed into the "giveaway bag" because it is now hanging on me like a sack.

I did buy a bunch of size 14 capris last winter in anticipation of a trip to Vegas in March. It turned out to be colder there than I had thought, so I never wore them. By the time it got warm enough here to wear them, I was down to a 10. But I'd left the tags on and was able to return them all!! Some places are better about that than others.

Shopping is great fun now, and I absolutely love a bargain. I'm so proud of my purchases, that when someone compliments me on an outfit, I can't stop myself from announcing how little I spent on everything. Its obnoxious, I'm sure! And the amazing thing is...my memory is pretty much shot on most things, but I can tell you that this shirt was originally $50, but I paid $7!

Haha I do this, too.  There is a girl I work with who always looks smashing, very stylish.  I compliment her clothes all the time and her standard answer is "I got it on sale".  Never fails.... so after my surgery, she was complimenting me on my outfit/weight loss and I was proud to tell her my entire outfit cost me $5!  I paid $2 for the capris and $2 for the tank on clearance at KMart and a $1 for the short sweater/jacket at Salvation Army.  Super cute outfit.  My nylons cost me more than the entire outfit!

Ebay is an awesome site for getting great deals on clothes! But I also went to Value Village, Goodwill, and the Salvation Army--you'd be amazed at what you can find!

Clearance racks are also neat, but I never rely on them completely. But sometimes you get a nice surprise: Just last week I got a deal on Gloria Vanderbilt jeans (my new size 6!) for $4.99 at Sears!

With this economy, it makes sense to scale back a bit on the clothing budget, but when the weight is falling off so rapidly, you have to allow for some splurges! Rock on, K.!

Every Wednesday our salvation army has "half price day" for everything except a certain color tag.  Last week I found an entire section of GV jeans in size 18 but the wrong color tag for the day.  I'm going back today after work and snagging them if they're still there since they don't repeat the color tag until next month. I will be walking away with them for a whopping $2 a pair!

lucky me i love to shop and even when i was bigger i bought smaller clothes. i dont know why, maybe subconsciencely planning for these moments lol. but as i got bigger and bigger i still had all of my smaller size clothes so as i started losing weight i had old clothes that i could fit in... yay!! no "needful" shopping. i also still have my maternity clothes and am going to keep my bigger clothes until after i have more children that way hopefully i wont have to buy expensive maternity clothes. but i wear clothes until they are literally falling off of me and the blue jeans that were my fav when i had surgery, fall completely off of me now :)
