Dumb questions - but does it change the consistency or taste?  I want to make a batch of chili and freeze.  Also Sargento cheese starbursts are on sale and I'd like to stock up if they freeze well.  Thanks!

Yes to both. I make soups and chili all the time and freeze it in smaller containers. Freezing doesn't change it at all.

I freeze chiili every time I  make it because I always make a buttload of it at a time. Never ahd any problems.

As for cheese - try here:

If those Starburts are mozzarella,  you may be okay. This site says its one of the best cheeses to freeze.

Yes to both. Shredded cheese freezes better, the block cheese tends to crumbled when thawed out. I freeze both all the time, right now I am stocked with cheese since it was on sale for $.99!

slice or cube your cheese first, freeze on a cookie sheet and then store in zippy bags.  Take out what you need and defrost IN the fridge.  Works great!  Oh and kraft singles freeze and thaw well also....

I don't think these are dumb questions at all! My kitchen and I have a passing acquaintance, so I love learning new things! I am going to buy a few extra cheeses when they are on a good sale and try to freeze them!

I freeze chili all the time with beans.

cheese can be frozen but i find it changes the texture.  shredded should be ok if you are going to melt it afterwards...

When i make my favorite white chicken chili i make a HUGE pot of it and freeze it in 2 portion servings.  (i use baggies, it's easier to store)  It defrosts just fine.

I use alot of low fat swiss... it's easy to roll with turkey, and it's easy to just grab a slice for a quick snack.  i buy it a couple of pounds at a time and freeze it in smaller packages.  It always defrosts perfecty.

I HATE grocery shopping and tend to buy larger amounts of most things and freeze it, including bread, deli meats and skim milk.  Have been doing this for years without problems.
