If you call copy and paste looking something up.

I graduated high school at 16 too so that's no big deal.Skipped grades and all. No big deal

Yeah my home health aide certificate is hanging right  up there. That's why I call myself a medical professional and work in an emergency room.  But yes I am sure your college diploma is right at par with that.

I have a few other educational achievements but they are not relevant here and I won't brag so we will just leave it as above.

Yeah my home health aide certificate is hanging right beside my paramedic license and my Nursing degree as well as my 20  ongoing  emergency medical nursing certificates and my BA in gerontology. But yes I am sure your college diploma is right at par with that.

You still can't quite bring yourself to say that I was right and that you have been wrong the whole time on this thread, eh?

So you are error-prone and stubborn...good thing you worked in gerontology...they didn't have that much time left anyway.

I work in a hospital where we do bariatric surgery and not once have I ever had a case like this due to RNY, alcohol yes (several in the last few months) but never gastric bypass. Why do people that have DS think they need to convince everyone else it's the "right" surgery.  Everyone needs to make their own choices.

I will not name names --

But I have had a few people PM me with this condition post RNY.  Someone post RNY who was throwing up a great deal was VERY low on B1 and if she hadn't suggested the test, would probably would have had issues -- she was pregnant at the time so would have been in double problems.

But then again, I've also seen a DSer with Scurvy, so...  (And an RNYer..)

I also have never heard of this condition related to WLS. I am not disputing that other folks have PM'd you, I am just wondering why they would be PM'ing you instead of their MD if they are having such serious complications.
I also wonder if their vomitting was so severe and prolonged to cause such serious complications why they were not hospitalized or treated for the prolonged vomiting before they got so ill.
Whatever you do is it truthful, necessary and kind?

Because people who are not thinking clearly do not respond the way someone who is thinking clearly might do.  At least she wrote to Andrea...which is great, because she knows what can happen.

Actually, in the case of beri-beri, receiving some IV therapies will make the condition worse.  Not cool.  Unfortunately, one of those therapies (and my notes are in another room.. I can go get them if you really want..) is used for people exhibiting vomiting and nausea symptoms, which also makes beriberi worse.  So both would make the condition worse..

The reason why the docs don't catch it is because it's so rare that it's not commonly tested for.  Let's face it, there are still some WLS docs recommending TUMS for calcium sources, and there is a ton of literature that states that this is a huge no-no, but yet, inexplicably, it happens.

Point is, there are some of us who have seen more than many of the docs have, because we've experienced some of the nasty side effects of mismanaged or poorly managed WLS care.  I've had rickets, my iron is in the toilet, and my b-12 has been in the low hundreds before.  Some have had very low C's.  One girl who posts had HORRIBLE b-vitamin deficiencies, and as I said, a girl who was pregnant (and thus yes, was throwing up a great deal.. ) had extremely low B1.  If she had not suggested the test, then they would not have caught the level and known to treat it.

I did not mention the DS...I mentioned vomiting.  It CAN happen with any surgery.
