sugar free stuff seems to make me sick

Hey there I am almost three months out and I have been blessed with very few problems with food.  I have stayed completely away from sweets, and keep my carb count just as low as I can.
On Thanksgiving I made a couple of pies from Sugar free pudding and used sugar free coolwhip.  There was a graham cracker crust, but I didnt eat it.  I ate the tinyest of pieces and got a stomach ache and other issues that go along with stomach cramps if you get my drift...... It was a teeny tiny piece..... I thought maybe it was just to much... I tried SF pudding with a scoop of Protein powder again tonight with SF coolwhip and sure enough... I am hurting again.  I dont know if its the coolwhip or the combo or just that I am going to have to stay away from all sweets even sugar free.  I dont think its the milk cause I can drink milk straight without any issues.

I would understand if I ate just a hootload of this stuff but I had less than 1/2 cup tonight and felt bad..... any suggestions on what it might be?  Good news is I broke the 100 lb mark from my highest weight at the beginning of the year.  87lbs August :)  I am happy.

Sugar alcohols, maybe?

I am pretty tolerant of sugar free items, but I have tried sugar free cool whip a few different times and it did not sit well with me.   That lead me to do some investigating. It is mainly made up of oil.  It really may be the culprit.

Yeah that would make sense cause I have had the premade pudding in a cup before and been alright.  Its that cool whip.  I looked at the ingredients and second on the list was Corn Syrup.... isnt that the same thing as sugar?  Thanks for the input.  I think I will leave it alone...lol

Sugar free/Lite Cool Whip and the Jello ready to eat puddings make me sick. I think they contain sugar alcohols. Actually, I seem to do better with limited amounts of regular sugar than I do with most sugar alcohols.

I do well with a teeny bit of the real deal Ready Whip. And the cook and serve pudding doesn't seem to bother me too much. Something's that I've tried that was really good when I was on Weight Watchers, that I really need to try again, is making pudding from scratch using Splenda instead of sugar. I'm not sure about the carbs (I think it uses cornstarch), but it really tasted very good.

Good luck!

I have issues with graham cracker crust. It usually has alot of sugar and butter in it. I just can't. I have tried three different years in a row. I am a glutton for punishment. One thin slice puts me in bed asleep for 20 minutes!

Lots of people have issues with artificial sweeteners, myself included.  They made me sick pre-op!  Try a natural calorie-free sweetener, like stevia.  Truvia and Sun Crystals are great options!

Join the club!! I still have trouble with them at over 2 years out. Sugar free gum is about all the amount I can tolerate. It's the sugar alcohols in most artificial sweeteners. I just use regular sugar if I need sweetener and do fine with that, but basically stay away from sweetened things in general.

Artificial sweeteners can turn on you, as can sugar alcohols (which are not based on sugar!), as can the lactose that is undoubtedly in such SF products.  Whether or not you've had any type of WLS, your body can suddenly have a bad response to all of the above. It may be a short term thing or long term.

Try eliminating just one of the ingredients at a time to see how your body responds and narrow down the culprit.

Take care.

Could you tolerate these items before surgery? I was not able to tolerate things with aspertame and  sugar alcohols prior to surgery and I knew this. Diet Pepsi was my enemy b/c of aspertame. So I can not do Crystal Light as I wish I could. I can do small amounts of SF jello.

I do better with small amounts of items with sugar.
