Hi,
I am getting in my 70 grams of protein a day for my liquid pre op.  Yesterday I was so hungry and on edge that I got about 100 grams in.  Today, someone who has had rny told me that too much protein hurts your liver and causes kidyney stones.  Do you know if it is true?

Hi there, I've not heard this one before - always been told to get in between 60-100 g., and that it's for life! Best of luck, when is your surgery? Maureen

Hi there, I'm trying to access your profile page but can't - any suggestions? You have endured so much and at least in your avatar photo, you look incredible! Would love to hear your story - please share. What is your secret for maintaining your weight loss? Any regain this far out? Thanks! Maureen

Thanks for saying so. I'll add you as a friend!

ETA: To answer your questions:

There's no secret-- I eat less than I spend (and monitor that very closely) and I keep a balance of about 35% carbs/ 35% protein / 30% fat and 1700 calories a day-- with the exception of holidays, where I eat as much as I want of whatever I like.

I'm up .8 lb from my all-time low, so no, no real regain.

It is possible for protein to cause kidney stones, but not so much that most nutrition or medical professionals would tell you to consume less than your recommended amount. I have been directed to get 120 grams now and have in the past been directed to take in 140 grams.

Hello,

It's possible but rare.  The best prevention from this happening is to be sure and drink your water to flush out the proteins in your body.

70 grams too much?  When I was getting ready for my 3 major PS I upped my protein between 300 and 400 grams a day.

Take care,
Kathy

Kathy, we had our surgeries the same month and year - I've remained pretty active on the March 2004 Board, have you ever visited? Maureen
