My husband had RNY on 10/31/06 weighing 511 lbs. He lost down to 340 and has regained to 364... lost to 350 and up to 364 again.  He is seeking a revision to the DS  as he needs the malabsorbtion component and can eat a LARGE quantity of food... Not like pre op where he could easily eat 3  fast food  combos ..but still able to eat 1 entire one now ( i know.. not good choice  for him.. but he eats at work on the go) .. and then is hungry like 2 hours later..  He did have alot of restriction after surgery .. but that has been gone since about a year out.
In order for our insurance to pay for his revision he has to be on a supervised diet plan.  THis is the diet plan that the dietician put him on as of yesterday.

Breakfast
 2 starchy foods..  ( 1 1/2 cups multigrain cheerios)
8 0z lactaid milk
1 fruit choice  ( 1/2 banana !!)  ( who the hell only eats 1/2 of a banana?!)
1 oz protein...  ( a cheese stick)

Lunch
2 starchy foods (3 slices of 45 calorie 9 gr carb bread bread)
1 fruit  ( 1/2 cup light peaches)
1 vegetable   (1/2 cup carrots)
3 oz protein.. ( lunch meat)
2 fat choices ( 2 tsp mayo)

Dinner
2 starchy foods ( medium size baked potato)
2 vegs  (1/2 cup each green beans or squash)
4 oz protein   ( baked  pork chop)
2 fat choices ( 2 tsp  margarine to go on either the potato or the vegetables!!)

He gets 8 oz of protein per day people! Isn't this is insane crazy for a post RNYer? He is not happy and is starving !!   I'm going to be the victim of man PMS for the next 6 months since he just started this !
I feel so sorry for him! It is the opposite of how I eat! and how he will be eating after the DS!

I live in West Texas stupidity hell!   The same hospital... which is where my hubby got his RNY is STILL advising RNYers to take their Flintstones and TUMS!!! HELLO!!!    Thank GOD I needed WLS and now have hubby on appropriate vitamins at least the last 9 months when I started coming to OH!

Any advise for his diet that wont make him gain weight ? Seriously this seems very low on protein .. how does this look to y'all RNYers?

Thanks for any help on getting him through this diet for the next 6 months...

I liked the South Beach diet . I kind of modified it a little . But , it is high in protein . You can probably google high protein weight loss diets & come up with something . Good luck . I feel for ya .

Well, it seems a little low on protein but not terribly low.  With the protein at lunch and dinner and the cheese stick and milk at breakfast, it looks like he's getting about 65 grams.  People need about 60 - 80 grams after RNY.  So he could a little more but that's not too low.

It seems like a lot of starchy food to me, though.  I'd recommended fewer starchy carbs and more protein.

Does this dietician know anything about RNY?

I'd also suggest doing five or six small meals a day instead of three big ones.  He'll be less likely to get hungry and it will keep his metabolism up.

yea Id break those meals up into at least 5 meals same amount of food though in a day...its sound... and yes people DO eat half a banana a day!  I always eat just half a banana because its a HECK of a lot of sugar in one of those suckers!!!

I sure do wish you guys lots of luck :(   wouldnt it be nice if thigns could jsut be easier....?  hang in there!

Wow.  This is the worst diet plan I think I've seen for a post-op RNYer..

But then again, I'm kinda a DSer in disguise I think.

You need to get him to a dietician who knows RNY.  This is not going to cut it for him -- period.

Blergh, no.

But, I'm not a good example either.

I eat a lot of protein, fat and whole grains.

You had surgery in 2006 and haven't had labs done since the first year?  Why on earth not?  And you're taking Flintstones and calcium carbonate?  Why aren't you taking adult vitamins and calcium citrate?

I'm not sure why you would be sure you were fine.  Even if you weren't bypassed much, you're getting almost no calcium since we only absorb about 4% of the calcium in calcium carbonate and you're taking Flinstones which have vitamin A we can't absorb well and not enough riboflavin or biotin and no selenium.  I'm sorry your surgeon is not helpful, but personally I would find another doctor.
