Are fleet enemas safe for gastric bypass patients?

Also, even though my doctor wants me taking colace instead of miralax ..... I am thinking that miralax might be my better choice since colace isn't working.  Pls. share what works best for you .... how much you take and how often ??

Thanks

Gay

I used miralax at about 4 weeks, and it worked well. I mixed it in my hot tea and it had no taste.  I felt it was safe and if I needed again I wil use it.  Once I switched to reg food it took me two weeks to go poop, so I worried everyday until I went.  If you make sure you add plenty of fruit and vegs, and beans this problem will go away.  I hope this helps you. Good Luck

Hey Cynthia ~

I seem to go from one extreme to the next.  Salads or raw veggies give me diaherra, but if I don't eat the ruffage I then get constipated.  I have been doing okay with taking 2 colace daily; however, tonite I had a really bad spell with constipation, and don't want to risk that happening again.  I've been told Miralax works well if taken daily.

Just needed some feedback!

Thanks

1) Yes.  The bypass is well above where the enema would be.

2) Miralax is a godsend.  Buy it.  Use it.  Enjoy it.

I finally hit on the combination of things that works for me. I started a couple of them at the same time so I'm not absolutely sure if I can do without any of them...and I don't care to find out! Both my surgeon and PCP have given me the all clear on them all so I'm not changing anything! Daily poops rule!

Benefiber....1T twice a day, mixed in my 2 mugs of hot chai tea right now. It dissolves completely without any taste so I have mixed it in plain water.

Miralax.....1 capful in morning chai tea or water. I use it with the Benefiber in the mornings.

Generic Colace stool softeners....3-4 a day, 1 with each meal and at bedtime.

Magnesium Oxide...Two 400mg capsules daily. I really think this is what made the big difference. With the Benefiber, Miralax and St. softeners, I would still have spells of 'almost' constipation if I slacked off on the water any at all. It took about 4-5 weeks to get into my system but since then I have had a normal BM every day.

If I was to change anything it would be to stop the Miralax daily and only use it if I missed a daily BM.

Hope this help you!
