Poll: Treats post-op -- how often or not at all?
I'm just over six months post-op and I had an ice cream cone today. I record everything I eat, so I'll have all my protein for the day and will keep my calories in check. I don't have any set limit on carbs from my nut, so I think indulging once in a blue moon is okay. This is the second time I've had ice cream in six months and I don't plan on making it a regular thing at all.
For me, the worse thing that I can do is to totally ban certain foods. For the most part I choose not to eat high fat/sugary foods, etc. However, on occasion I did sample the pumpkin pie at Thanksgiving and I will have a little cake at a friend's birthday, etc. I think anything in moderation is okay on occasion. Plus I still do Weigh****chers and have the mentality that I am not on a diet and I think of it as a way of life.I think what really keeps me in check is that I work out 5-6 times per week so I really think about what I put in my mouth. I don't want to break by butt working out for an hour at the gym to burn 500 calories, just to eat something bad in a matter of minutes. Make sense?
Hi Leanne
My thought is we are on our way to a 'normal' life, and normal people DO enjoy treats occassionally. I think the important thing is to not let Occassionally become regularly. If I do have a treat I just try to make it a part of my daily calorie intake, in otherwords I'll try to cut something out that I would have normally eaten (I don't mean like a whole meal). I think banning ourselves from the things actually makes us fixate on them. I need freedom from that.
