The other side of that "Coakley let a child torturer go free" story...

Heh.  I married a Swede 11 years ago and have two little half-vikings.  I've been trying to learn for those 11 years and can understand and read more than I can speak (and type).

I'm really in trouble, though.  I mean, REALLY screwed.  I was just elected Chairwoman of the local chapter of VASA, a Swedish Brotherhood here in the States and I'm soooooo worried I'll completely eff up the pronounciation of the occasional phrase, word, name, visitor, etc.  I think the group has completely lost their collective minds, too, but that's neither here nor there.

Holy crap, I think danish is even harder than swedi****he norwegians I do understand...they sound like swedes on some sort of happy drug (at least thats how they sound).

Danes....I have listened and I see the text....and I can understand if I read the text but it sounds NOTHING like what is written. Seriously, if you can get any sort of grip on the danish language, you are GOOD!

Tjena Andrea!

OMG...your little vikings are weaponized for REALS! haha

There will be pie and cookies for all the socialist liberals of course! Pepperkaka for everyone!

I have been living in Sweden for almost 9 years now and I still understand much more than I can speak...it leads to odd conversations where they speak swedish and I speak engli****s worse when I try to practice swedish and they try to practice english....nothing gets accomplished then. I think my mother in law must feel like she is a kid show host around me....she speaks very very very clearly and very very very sloooooowly.

My dog seems to be bi-lingual. We do all his commands in swedish (although some are the same in english, like sit or kom) but we noticed he perks up when I say dinner or lunch....the beast understands food words in both languages and he ignores the rest in both languages as well. Should I be depressed the dog is more bi-lingual than me?

after 9 years its still hard to understand for you??  oh man LOL  I figured I could go live in Denmark for a year and I'd catch on but maybe I'm wrong! LOL  I LOVE Danish!!!  I think its really cool sounding.   I guess I havent heard much swedish but I agree with you about Norwegian...to me it sounds Danish except sing-songy  like danish on prozac  :)

Heh -- and the son?  He's dangerous WITHOUT a sword.

I didn't even attempt pepparkakor this year.  I so very much suck at them.  I mean, I cannot express how much I suck at making them.  At least a 60% failure rate.  At that rate, I'd rather buy them.

I like pie.  Pie is good.

I think food is a universal language!

Actually, truth be known, I completely DISAGREE with the thread.....but that's besides the point.  I just don't get what you or anyone else expects to gain with trying be the "topic police"...  I dunno.  I am going completely against my grain even posting here about this.  I am not a mean person and I don't like to hurt anyone's feelings, but this is the second time I've seen this in less than 24 hours where someone felt it necessary to point out that a thread wasn't "weight loss-related" and it just irked me.

Lesson learned.  OH main board is apparently an open forum to express opinion about things outside of weight loss.

No worries; I wish you all a blessed day!

You are entirely correct---it is. May the FSM touch you with his Noodley appendage.
