What do I stock up on?
I also advise you not to really stock up on anything. Its not like you will never leave the house again! Au contraire...It will be the opposite. After the initial recovery of a few weeks, you will want to get out and walk this spring and shopping for things you get hungry for and whatever vitamins you may need and can tolerate....You will feel good enough in a few weeks to stand and make homemade soup if your little heart desires. One thing I DID purchase and i use every day are Rubbermaid, Glad or generic containers with lids in the 4 ounce size. They are PERFECT to put many lunch items in, make individual sugar free jellos in....take cottage cheese and cubes of lowfat cheese in......small servings of meat, veggies, etc. Now THAT was my best bargain buy! Protein shakes can be made with plain old skim milk, add a few frozen berries, an ice cube, some splenda, hype up the protein in it with a few shakes of nonfat dry milk and u got some good grams of protein in there!!!!! Put in blender and hit that button...pour and sip over the next half hour and YUM! No need to spend a million bucks.
I stocked up on everything. Make sure your soups are fat and sugar FREE. I messed up on a few soups.
As for vitamins. I stocked up on that and protein only to HATE my calcium and protein post op. So I do not recommend doing that. I have stuff now that I have only hope one day I will tolerate enough to actually put in my mouth and swallow.
Gas -X strips, crystal light, band-aids, sanitary napkins, and a pill crusher ;)
** I even bought the groceries for my soft diet as who wants to figure out how to get groceries in the car and in the house when you cant lift heavy objects. (changed to skim milk/smart balance for butter too)
