Cheating on the liver shrinking diet

In my opinion you didn't really cheat - the chicken is protein and as long as you stay away from carbs you'll be fine. Just be extra vigilant the closer you get to the surgery. Especially the day before. I don't really understand these all liquid diets, especially those that include protein drinks, maybe it's another way of helping us get used to the way that we'll be eating right after surgery. Don't know.

Hi-
You will be fine!  i am 10 days out and I cheated a couple of times on the liquid diet.  I was on it for 2 weeks and was able to only have raw veggies.  I actually "researched" my cheat on here before I did it.  Most people seemed to agree that as long as you stay away from the carbs, high in fat, and processed food that you should be ok.  I ate some meat out of a burrito and left everything else. I wouldn't do it anymore though since your surgery is so close.  I was woried to and then the day of my surgery my surgeon didn't even ask me about my liquid diet.  I told him I lost 14 lbs on it and he said "well, thanks for doing that"  LOL...He said my liver looked great!  You will be fine!  Good luck with your surgery!

You cheated on exactly the right thing, protein. What will not work with the LSD is carbs. Protein is great!

You are ok. It's food high in fat that are bad for your liver. We are all human and we all love to eat.
The pre op diet they put you on is killer. I am so happy my surgeon didn't do that to me.  hang in there!

I was in sam's club looking at shakes. Why did it have to be in the pharmacy section accross from the deli and it was smelling up the store...I am a chicken lover...So i did buy one, cut off just the leg/thigh  and ate it, it was soooo good...Gave the rest to my mom....didn't want to bring it home with me. ..I did good though, every aile seemed like somone was sampling something, i polietly said, no thanks, and kept walking.

First time I cheated on my pre op fast I almost burnt the house down trying to make a snack (long story).  Seems to me those brilliant surgeons would realise it's unreasonable to expect people with food addictions to last 2-3 weeks on nothing but opti fast wthout taking a nibble here or there.

I'm in the process of changing my diet, relationship with food and my lifestyle.  I'm in training for maintaining.

Wow I can't believe that you have to do 2 weeks liquid only...That's crazy!! I sure am glad my doctor only does liquids 2 days prior..

I too was on Optifast for 10 days.  First of all, I didn't buy into the Optifast plan to begin with.  I would have rather have been asked to stay away from carbs and to be enabled to eat lean protein and veggies....the peace of mind is what was important.  But the plan did help me get used to not being able to eat large amounts of food and to realize I can live on liquids for a little while.

I "cheated"  three out of the ten days at least.  I got a terrible sore throat and began using honey in my tea...heavily.  Then I went out for a special occassion and I ate some carbs that day and I also visited my hometown in NYC and I could'nt pass what seemed to be the next to last time I'd eat pizza from this restaurant for a while....so I ate a couple of slices of pizza.  I did get back on track the next day until five days later when I had a little bit of everything I shouldn't that night.  I took a second laxitive that night and early in the day...this was two days before surgery.  I followed strictly the two day clears w/o a glitch and I did lose 12lbs over that ten days.

So, follow the plan as much as possible...especially on the two days before surgery.  You can do it, but don't get worried about the slip up...you'll be fine.
