Which vitamin do I need to take for nervous system health? Since being diagnosed with MS I'm trying to do what I can nutritionally to maintain things.

I'm sure there's more than just one that is good for the nervous system, but the one we have most trouble with is vitamin B12.  Folks who have WLS have to find a good way to supplement this.  I give myself an injection of B12 monthly.

Thank you Linda. Are your injections prescribed?

Yes, you need a prescription for the B12, syringes and needles.

As you may or may not know, the way MS attacks the nervous system is by destroying the myelin sheath, a fatty layer that surrounds and protects the nerve cell.

Vitamin B12 protects nerve function by helping to protect the myelin sheath.

So, take your B12.

Wow Sharyn you are always so helpful to me. It was explained to me about the myelin sheath and what was happening but not alot about how to slow it. Is it possible to take too much B12?

Not at once.

But over time, yes it is possible to get toxic on B12.  The lab value is questionable because this is pretty rare, and thus not widely studided and not well quantifed.  Some say 2500, some say 3000.  The lowest I've seen is 2000, but I think that's very unlikely.

Thank you Andrea. Do you have a recommendation on how much I should take a day?

What was your B12 level last time you had labs done?

I have looked all over and can't find my paperwork. When I find it I will post it.
