Confussed about RNY vs. DS

I have been on here for a while and Ive been reading different posts and I'm confusing myself.  I have looked over the info and Ive done research but there are so many people on here that are complaining about the RNY that it makes me even more scared than I already was.  I didn't come here to hear that I'm doing the wrong thing and that I should do something else I came here for support. I want to hear the good things and the bad, but I don't want the jaded advice or comments I want the truth If you didn't do it right than I don't wanna hear that it doesn't work if you didn't see about what options you have before AND after I don't want to hear about it. We all love food well some of us hate it but I need to know what you think? Please let me hear your story.

Maybe I'm having a hard time understanding you... you want the truth, but you don't want to hear about it? huh?

This is a public forum with varied opinions and experience. My ray savedy life and I'm thrilled with the results but not everybody is. You want the truth?!? Results vary... You don't want jaded opinion......it's simply an opinion.....if you want consensus you won't find it in clinical medicine and you certainly won't find it on a public support forum. Wls is all about a realistic risk assessment....and that assessment includes what you bring to the table. I was dying so my commitment to a healthy outcome has never wavered. My wls was a miracle that gave me a chance to live. It comes at a cost if you think living without cheeseburgers and fried chicken is a loss. Susan

my story is that I had a RNY 11 years ago.  I lost a vast majority of my weight.  I followed the rules and the diet to a "T".  I started to find maintaining my loss VERY hard.  I had to cut more calories and the scale still did not move.  I am now 100 pounds heavier, my stoma is stretched, my pouch is to big and I am just months away from facing a very complex revision surgery. I never feel full.  I can eat and still feel as though I am hungry.  I dump  after eating good foods and have reactive hypoglycemia.  It sucks and I hope it ends soon

Had RNY in 2002 at 407.  Lost down to 233 and never went below this weight no matter what I did.  I am now back up to 336 and gaining.  I too have stretched my stoma and I am trying as hard as I can to get a revision to a DS.  Back when I did my RNY no one in Florida was offering the DS.  Anyway no one talked to me about it or I would have researched it.  You need to know the good and the bad to make an intelligent decision.  Hiding your head in the sand will not make everything better.

I have had RNY and although I am only 5 months out I love it.  Have I dumped? Yes I have. would I have the surgery again?  Absolutely!  I have also studied the DS and it is a great surgery as well but I will keep my RNY!

Do you want to know how well the two surgeries work?  Then ask for opinions from people who've lived with the surgeries for 5+ years.  Or 10+.  Newbies can't tell you ****

HINT: There's a reason so many people are complaining about their RNYs.  And their lapbands.  Go read the Revisions and Failed WLS boards:

If you're looking for rainbows and unicorns, don't ask for the truth.

Um, I'm seriously confused too...you don't want to hear about the negative because it makes you scared. And you call that jaded - well actually that IS the truth. The people who are only a few months out etc are the ones that are happy because they are losing weight. It's the ones that are further out from surgery, the ones who are veterans of their respective surgeries, the ones who are "jaded" that you should pay close attention to because they have the most experience. If you only want unicorns and rainbows you're in the wrong spot - you'll get some of that sure - but you'll also hear the truth. If you don't want to hear the truth well that's just dumb in my opinion.

Not sure what the question is - but in case you have not made your mind yet - I had RNY 2.5 years ago.  Doing very well.  But - if I had to do it again- I would have the VSG or the DS.  Just saying.  First 6-9 months - was great...even with hernia and GB removal... the fun started after I was over 1 year post op and the reactive hypoglycemia hit... that's not fun... Plus some other things.  ulcers... another hernia..

Please go back and properly punctuate your original post.  I mean this sincerely.  I am having a difficult time understanding what you're really asking.
